1986-1987 & 1991-date         PriCEng (formerly EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS ENGINEERING) (Vancouver, BC)

            Owner, Principal Engineer and Project Manager, providing expert help with the design and procurement of Fire Alarm, Fire Suppression, Security and Industrial Process Control Systems. Many interesting and varied assignments have included work in high-rise buildings, airport control tower, mountain-top radio sites, computer rooms, federal prisons, medium density fiberboard plants, commuter rail stations, bus garages, Inuit communities, automotive body shops and restaurants.

            Managed all aspects of assignments including needs identification, conceptual design, capital cost estimating, specification, Drawing preparation, tendering, bid evaluation, Professional Design & Field Review, contractor supervision, and acceptance testing. Supervised the work of 1-6 subordinates, (varying from project to project). Capital value of systems and installations as engineered, varied from a few thousand to approximately twenty million dollars.

 

            H.A.SIMONS LTD. (Vancouver, BC)

1996-1997       Design, procurement, installation supervision and startup of an Electrical Distribution Management System (EDMS) to replace and enhance the performance of an existing SCADA system installed throughout Suncor Oil Sands Group's Fort McMurray AB plant site. The Allen-Bradley PLC-based system improved data collection speed by two orders of magnitude..

1988-1991       Senior Electrical Engineer, specialising in Industrial Control Systems design, procurement and start-up for the Pulp & Paper industry in BC and Chile. Experienced in the configuration of Allen-Bradley and General Electric PLC systems, and Fisher-Provox DCS systems.

1983-1986       Project Engineer/Resident Engineer, SkyTrain project. Design, procurement, installation supervision and system acceptance, of an Integrated Alarm Notification System (IANS) for protection of SkyTrain's fixed facilities. The IANS monitors/controls all Fire, Security, Emergency Voice Communications and mechanical equipment throughout all wayside facilities along the automated line, reporting to a Central Operator in a constantly manned Control Centre.

 1981-1982      Designer. Specification of computer-based Fire Protection systems for Forest Products and Grain Export Terminal facilities.

 

1980-1981       CHUBB INDUSTRIES LTD. (Vancouver, BC)

            Regional Manager (BC),Chubb Fire Security. Responsible for province-wide sales and service of fire alarm and extinguishment systems. Supervised approx 20 staff.

            Engineered Systems representative (W.Canada), Chubb Security Systems. Marketing of Integrated Life Safety/Loss Prevention systems for commercial, industrial and government applications.

 

1976-1979       ADT SECURITY SYSTEMS (Vancouver, BC)

            Central Station Manager. Responsible for receipt of Fire and Security alarms from customers' premises, and onward notification to applicable Fire and Police departments. 24-hour operation. Supervised 20 IBEW staff.

            BC Sales Supervisor. Marketing of commercial, industrial and residential Fire and Security alarm systems, intended for remote monitoring by constantly attended Central Station (see above).

            Sales Manager, Security Division. Establishment of distributor network in 39 countries, for hi-tech security sensor equipment. Increased sales by 500% in 2.5 years. Market analysis for future product development resulted in the first microwave sensor for automatic door applications, now the industry standard.
