The Arborg Unitarian Church is an independent congregation serving the needs of religious
liberals and other spiritual seekers across the Interlake region. As a church without a creed
but not without beliefs, our congregation is a meeting place for liberal Christians and
religious humanists, universal theists and freethinkers, pagans and students of the world's
great religious traditions. Holding fast to the transforming power of love and the ongoing
search for truth and meaning, wherever it may lead us, we affirm the worth and dignity of
persons, the values of a free and democratic society, justice tempered by compassion, and
respect for the natural world that sustains our lives. In our worship, we strive to seek
truth, practice love and celebrate life.

Our church is served by a part-time minister, Rev. Stefan M. Jonasson of Winnipeg, and a
resident lay chaplain, Sylvia Sigurdson. Our minister conducts most of the worship services
during the year, although the congregation also enjoys services offered by guest
preachers. Our minister and lay chaplain share responsibilities for rites of passage --
weddings, christenings and memorial services. The congregation as a whole shares
responsibility for pastoral care.

Founded in 1923 as the Icelandic Federated Church in Arborg (
Sambands Söfnuður
Íslendinga í Árborg
), the congregation boasts an increasingly diverse membership while
continuing to celebrate its Icelandic roots. It has been commonly known as the Arborg
Unitarian Church since the 1960s and was re-incorporated under that name in 1990.

Our church is a member congregation of both the Canadian Unitarian Council and the
Unitarian Universalist Association. It also supports the Unitarian Service Committee (USC
Canada) and local organization serving the larger good, including the Arborg Cheer Board.
