The history of the guestbook at Steve's Place
This should be read from the bottom up
so scroll down to the end
of the page and read up to the top.
This is the origional
guestbook when I startd up my site in July of 1999. I unfortunatly had
to change because of server problems. I kept a copy of this as I always
enjoyed hearing what
visitors (and friends)
had to say. It shows how a lot of people view the music, the musicians,
the internet and a variety
of topics. I would also like to thank all for the kind
words and encouragement
I have recieved over the last couple of years.......
I do try and answer all
the questions........... Steve.
I was standing in front of the counter, staring at this image: a piece
of barbed wire, glowing in neon, spread out across this black cover, the
twisted strands of metal glowing red hot. The words at the top spelled
out an unspeakable fate that might befall anyone who dared to possess this
talisman. VICTIMS OF THE FURY! I picked it up and took it home with me
(after paying for it, of course). The voice in my head kept saying, "I
must listen to this!" Once I returned home, I placed it on the turntable
and started to play, when I heard the opening riffs of the song, "Jack
and Jill", a new chapter in my life had just been opened. From that moment
on, I was on to new "Roads To Freedom", listening to the music of a different
piper, and one that I would be listening to for the next 22 years. And
that piper is called ROBIN TROWER!
Steve's Place is a wonderful place of discovery about this man called
Robin Trower and the 'family' of musicians who have collaborated with him
over the years. The site enhancements that Steve Shail has implemented
over the evolution of his Trower page are remarkable and a real treat for
Trower fans. There isn't a more up-to-date site on the 'net. Take some
time to wander through Steve's Place and discover a whole new side of the
man and music of Robin Trower. Great job on your terrific Trower site,
Steve. Thank you, my friend.
Ron
Steve, really enjoyed your adventure story and could experience
your sense of awe and excitement all the way through it! I've been a Trower
fan since Procol but Bridge of Sighs remains a favorite today. I also am
fascinated with In City Dreams. That recording has a tender but psychedelic
remoteness to it. Saw Trower and band twice in the late Eighties at the
Lost Horizon nightclub in Syracuse.Very good shows and I took a few pictures
with a Canon Snappy that came out pretty good despite the camera's limitations.
And mine as well! I've just put 5 into a png.format so if you're interested
in me downloading them to you let me know. They'll take a bit to download
but you won't lose any of the picture like a jpeg. Just found your site
Sunday so I've come back to read and see some more! Marlon Sellen

will find a number of pages. I'm not sure where they would all origionate.
Some really interesting stuff!
Steve,
I was touched by your interview with James Dewar, and I share your
high opinion of his talents, and pray for his
complete recovery. I must take issue, however, with one comment,
that he sang back up in Stone the Crows.
Having dusted off my old albums, I am reminded that both Jimmy Dewar
and Maggie Bell have strong solo
voices, and, that is the way they used them in Stone the Crows,
at least on the debut album. Each contributed lead
vocals to most of the songs, trading off verses. For the uninitiated,
"I Saw America" from the debut album is
worth the quest. An epic piece of music and poetry that, in the
words of another Scottish Bard Robert Burns,
allows us Americans "to see ourselves as others would."

ROBIN TROWER, WHAT A MUSICIAN, REAL EXPRESSION AND EMOTION IN HIS
PLAYING. SOLOS
LIKE ''CALEDONIA'' ARE SO BRILLIANT, THEY ARE NOT ONLY AWESOME ROCK
SOLOS, BUT
BEAUTIFULLY LYRICAL, YOU COULD PEN WORDS TO EVERY NOTE IN THAT SOLO
AND HAVE A
GREAT SONG. OTHER SOLOS LIKE ON ''RIVER'' AND ''CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT''
ARE GOOD
EXAMPLES OF WHAT I MEAN, THEY ARE SONGS IN THEMSELVES AS WELL AS
BREATHTAKING
SOLOS. TROWER IS NOT AS WELL KNOWN TO MANY YOUNGER MUSICIANS, YET
WHENEVER I
PLAY TROWER FOR THEM, THEY ALL WANT COPIES. JIMMY DEWAR, ONE OF

When is Trower playing back here, there are still a lot of people
who know he's class and want to see him in Britain. He has a more loyal
following in the States i know, but we miss him i'm telling you. I have
often wondered whether or not Robin Trower is rich, he should be with all
those great albums, he deserves millions for all the great times we've
had listening to him, but you can tell by the way he plays that money don't
come into it, he plays because its his true means of expression, and no
one on earth can play like him. I just finished working out the licks for
the solo after ''too rolling stoned'' you know the one with that thumping
bassline, wow those licks are somethin, took me a while and i wrote them
in TAB to remember. Pity theres no TAB books available to save me the time.Geezer

Steve-
If you saw my post on the Trower List you know about my idea to
distribute CD copies of the Dewar Mix I made to those who are interested
and to have people make gifts for Jimmy. If I get any response I wonder
whether I could impose upon Brian toacilitate the delivery of the gift.
I am not sure how the currency conversion would work. Also, if I a can
raise $200 or $300 and Brian thought any electronic equipment (e.g. compact
stereo system) would be of any interest to Jimmy, then I am not sure whether
they use the same voltage (120 vs. 220) in Scotland and whether it would
be cheaper to buy here and ship there or just have Brian buy there. So
far I haven't got any response so it may all be a moot point, although
it has been less than 24 hours.
Finally, I wonder if you have any interest in promoting my idea
on your website. If I get zero response from the list I will assume that
it was a lame idea and forget about it. If I start to get some response
and you are comfortable posting it for a couple of weeks, then let me know.
Thanks, Dave

As group of people raised enough
money to get Jimmy a guitar, a tour cap and a couple of items to help him
enjoy the music.
Saw Robin Trower last night at the Aladdin Theater in Portland Oregon.
I got an autograph at the end of the show!He was so kind and I often times
wonder if it must be hard to do this after putting out so much energy night
after night on the road. I had a couple of questions I wondered if you
could help answer. What part of Canada did Robin live in? I noticed his
100watt Marshall I think model #1959 cause I bought one in 72 that I have
been unable to part with. Still have the receipt! I also have the 1960
A&B 4x12 cabs. It looked like he had a JCM 800 top as well do you know
if it was a 50 or 100watt? How are they hooked up? He was using it looked
like 4 4x12 light brown cabs. As far as effects It seemed simple enough
the Vox wah and another thing maybe a dyna vibe?? I don't believe that
there were any distortion devices and he gets that warm crunch out of the
amps alone. Is there any channel switching between the amp heads? As you
can see I was totally mesmerized as well. What a show! What a great guy.
I saw him once before when I lived in San Jose Ca. (37 years) I also can
say that I also saw Jimi Hendrix Santa Clara Pop Fest 1967. Robins playing
brought back alot of those old great feelings. Thanks John Shea

Robin usually is available after concerts
to sign autographs. This is the best place to try.
Thanks for your support and appreciation for Robin Trower! Robin
is one of the precious treasures in life that all should embrace and not
take for granted. We along with our communities ( I.E. media etc.) need
to do much, much more to support such seasoned and genious talent. Because
of the "big marketing machine" Radio does nothing to educate and inform.
Even most classic rock stations today seem robotec and tasteless. Loop
after loop. Talent such as Robins and many others will not be around to
enjoy live forever! There is only a hand full of decent new rock influences
out today. This is completely tragic and the "big media machine" is totally
responsible!!! The tail should not always wag the dog.
I saw Robin live in OKC last week and it was one of the great musical
pleasures of my life!
Thanks again! Tony Cope

I went to the concert at the Medina Entertainment Center Friday
November 3. It was the 9th time I have went to see Robin and it was was
of his better performances if not his best. The place was packed all the
back to the walls and the sound was incredible. Not overly loud just perfect.
I took some people who had never heard Trower and they were blown away
by his talent and his new singer. Richard Watts can really sing a tune.
He fits in perfect with Robin's guitar sound and Alvino Bennet was excellent
as always on the drum kit. My friends can't believe that Trower isn't played
on the radio and all agree Robin put on a much better show than Clapton
did a few weeks ago. Robin said some of the songs were being recorded for
his live cd coming out next spring. We all hope his DVD will be recorded
as planned because then the public will finally get to witness Trower at
his best. It sounds like Robin has many many fans out there and we all
need to keep supporting him because he is the best guitar player out there
without a doubt. His two solos in Bridge of Sighs and Daydream brought
tears to many of his fans for the pure soulfullness he exhibits. Most people
were totally blown away with his technique and full-on sound. I recommend
that people check Robin out on this tour because he is at the top of his
game.

MIKE, i'm glad you saw it too, i was'nt sure if it was an English
publication or not. It's a shame you never met Roy Buchannon ,living so
near him, he was pure class, 'After Hours' is one of my all time favourite
tracks. The ''100 greatest solos''in that mag did include some truly great
ones, but yeah there were many that did not warrant a place there at all
and that's what bothered me, How they left out some classic solos just
so they could put more commercial ones in. I feel that in some ways Trowers
reputation has suffered a lot because some critics just wanted to say he
was trying to be Hendrix etc, these people don't realise that Trowers playing
style was instantly regognisable as his own, because they had already made
their minds up and that was it. Sure Hendrix was a big influence but in
no way was Trower doing a ''Frank Marino'',RT's songwriting and playing
were brilliant and there was a lot of originality, which was not always
the case with Frank of Mahogany rush.Geezer COV' UK - Thursday, November

GEEZER, I agree with you 100%. Saw that samne article , the 100
Greatest Guitar solos, and I too was dissapointed that the very two you
mentioned were not on it. Trower & Buchannon. I'm of course a bigger
fan of Trower, and thought he was definitly overlooked. The late Roy Buchannon,
of which I lived one block away from him in Reston Virginia and never knew
he was there until I heard about his death in 88 or 89 (can't remember
which), but I was always a big fan from the early 80's. One of my big dissapointments
in life was that I never realized that on of my guitar idols was my neighbor.
I jogged by his house weekly and never knew it. Would have loved to just
stop in and shake his hand, or just tell him how much I appreciated his
work. Anyway, they sure had some "Lame" names on that list. People who
I didn't think deserved that type of recognition. Especially when your
overlooking these two Guitar Gods. But isn't that how it goes. Just saw
Trower in October. He's as good as ever. Hope he gets his dues some day.

I was looking through some guitar mag yesterday, in this mag they
had ''the hundred greatest guitar solos of all time'' , i looked through
the whole lot and the bastards did'nt have one solo by the great man himself
RT, Jeff Beck had one at number 96 and people like Roy Buchanon or Buddy
Guy did'nt get a mention either, oh sure there were some great solos in
there but there were some lame ones too like those w**k*rs 'Kiss' and stuff
like that. What about legendary solos like 'Too rolling stoned' or 'Little
bit of sympathy' or that awesome solo in 'messin the blues', no man on
earth could play a solo like that, go listen to it now and check out that
style, one of a kind mate, one of a kind. These blokes in guitar mags would
rather talk about Liam Gallagher 'the one string wonder'' from Oasis than
truly great musicians, i guess its all about selling magazines.Geezer

Steve- I went through the list. I'm afraid that I did not save many
ticket stubs so I have nothing to add to the list. I can remember 20 shows
that I have been to, of which 16 are on the list. I note that the 7/19/94
Beacon Theatre show was a tour with Peter Frampton (Robin opened - hence
the short set list). Also, I seems to remember seeing Robin between 85
- 87 at a place called Pulsations in Pennsylvannia. I also note that the
7/23/76 show at Shea Stadium Robin opened for Jethro Tull. I mentioned
this to Robin when I got to meet him last month at the BBKing show in NYC
and he recalled that Rory Gallagher was the opening act before him. I guess
he has burned less brain cells than me, but when he said it I did recall
that.Dave Whitlock

Loved the Dewar Interview. Have been waiting for years to hear about
Jimmy. I thought it was done very tastefully. I would love to help in anyway
to get him the recognition he deserves. Just can't believe his voice, oh
I'll forget about it for a while, then play an old Trower cut and it still
moves me. I haven't really heard Robin speak much on his feelings about
Jimmy. I mean just a little here & there but nothing to give any real

I am a great fan of Robin Trower...His music and soulful playing
style just cuts right through me. I have collected virtually all of his
commercially available albums on CD, but have not been fortunate enough

I was buying a second hand guitar last week and when trying it out
played some of ''Daydream'', the assistant looked over and called out ''hey
man Robin Trower'', the guy then walked over and started talking about
Trower, he said that Robin Trower 'live'! on chrysalis was one of the best
live blues-rock recordings ever and ranked alongside Hendrix in brilliance,
then he took the guitar plugged it through a crybaby wah pedal and played
many of the licks from ''Rock me babe'' from the live version, the guy
was class and said that Trower was a big influence as well as Hendrix and
SRV.

Hi Steve, I noticed on the Trowerpower web-site on "what's new"
that the James Dewar interview is no longer there. Has it been removed
for good or can we still be able to read it? Sometimes it's nice to go
back & re-read stuff. Thank you, Rita

Hi Steve, Thank you for the interview with James, I thought it was
done in very good taste. And it's nice to read that James still can communicate
fairly good & still remembers most of the good old day's. Kudos to
you & James!! Happy late Birthday James!! Rita

What a shocker! I thought James Dewar died of a brain tumor in the
90's. What's the story? I saw Trower in Cleveland this month. His licks
are pure magic, but he's getting pretty old. Better see him every chance
you get. Please e-mail me and tell me why I heard or read Dewar is dead.
Fill me in on the real story. thanks, Eric

One of the reasons I jumped at the
opportunity to talk to Jimmy (thru his friend) was that there was literally
nothing about Jimmy out there....Steve
I'm a guitarist also. I've played many Trower tunes over the years
including "Whiskey Train", Little bit O' Sympathy", "Next In Line", "Day
Of the Eagle", "2 Rolling Stoned", "Ready For the Taking", "Same Rain Falls",
and a bunch more. I saw Robin most recently at the Pageant in St. Louis,
the first date of the tour. He was great.

Good job Steve. I didn't think that there was anybody that the same
feelings about Robins work as I do. It sounds like we have alot in common.
All the way down to not being able to see Robin until lately. He played
at the Pacanga casino. My wife got me a limo , my friend got me tix and
I was off to the most memorable night of my life, but as my luck would
have it, the limo driver couldn't find my house and was 45 minutes late,
so I missed all but 5 songs, I walked in the lead to Too rolling stoned.
I had goose bumps the size of the moon. After we sat down, Another friend
that was with us knew one of the ushers and got us third row seats center,
they kicked out some shmoes crashing the reserve seats and up we went.
I had tears in my eyes the whole time he played, I felt like an idiot but
after all the years of what Robins work has given me,I was completly overwhelmed
and couldn't control it. It's never happened before. That guy is by far,
the baddest guitar player to strap one on. Yngwie and Eddie, Randy, B.B.,
Stevie. They all have their place in R&R history, but there never was
before, and never will be again the creative guitar genius of Robin Trower.
Please tell them all that their magic was a one of a kind , tangable creation
and there is somebody out there, who felt what they did completely. Thanks
for listening to my rambling. Bob Batterton www.mp3.com/Stone Pharo (guitarist)

Steve:
I enjoyed looking at your site. Thanks for doing such an excellent
job.
I have been a Trower fan since '69, when I saw him with Procol Harum.
Since then, I have seen him a few times and have bought most of his albums,
plus a couple bootlegs.
I am probably one of the few people who like his pre-solo work a
lot, almost as much as his popular stuff. His technique was obviously much
less developed, but the emotion and soul were there right from the beginning.
Have you seen any shows or bootlegs with any of his Procol songs
like "Whiskey Train", "Long Gone Geek" or "Juicy John Pink"? How come he
never performs them? Also, almost never any material from the Jack Bruce
days. Keep up the good work!! I will be catching his show this Saturday
at the Jaxx club in Springfield, VA.

I had the opportunity to see Robin at the Indy show October 2nd
- and as usual he was great! I have had the opportunity to see him perform
now in every decade since the seventies. I will be displaying the BOS Platinum
album in a Ft. Wayne Indiana music store in November 2001 and everyone
will have an opportunity to register to win either a "Go My Way" cd, a
Charlie Souza "Behind the 9 Ball" cd, or a BLX cd just for visiting the
store and viewing the award. Like you, I am an avid collector of Trower
materials and if there are others out there, like me, who would like to
trade photos, I have about 70 black and white photos of Robin (and a few
of Jim Dewar) from the early 1970's. Thanks for providing a great web site!

Having been to approx 36 RT shows, I am very disappointed with this
set list. I thought on TrowerPower web site I read RT was going to perform
different oldies? I don't see this on the set list. I am speaking for other
major sacramento fans as well. BOS and Daydream take up over 20 precious
minutes of RT's typical 80min show. Whatever happened to Shame the Devil,
Confessin' Midnight, Its Only Money. Even Alethea and Fool and Me have
been performed plenty on the boots I have. I also see very little from
the new album. Anyhow, RT has such a rich catalogue. Even Back It Up album
is great. I was listening to it yesterday speeding on the freeway. I hope
others feel the same about the set list. Its so boring to have so much
of the same (BOS album and Daydream). Hopefully, the news tunes are hot.
I shall go to the show just the same. But I'm disappointed with the set
list from what was anticipated. Best regards

Yours is a fantastic website - the best fan's site for any rock
musician I have seen. I really liked your detailed story of how you saw
and met Robin - the level of detail is what makes it such a great story
- it must have taken you hours to write! I wrote a letter to Robin a while
ago saying that I wanted to write a factual book about about what it is
like to be a professional guitarist using him as the example - he actually
wrote a very nice letter back! But I couldn't get a British publisher -
they all said he had too narrow fan base over here. I have all his albums
and think Go My Way is amazingly strong - all his albums are good but you
don't expect someone who has been out there for as long as Trower has to
suddenly produce some of his very best work this far into his career. I
wrote a review for Amazon or Jungle.com saying what a great album it is.
I hope it sells by the bucket. The weird thing is that Robin is British
but we don't get to see him over here. I hope we will sometime. I was interested
by what you said about Richard Watts - he is a great singer; still, so
is RT himself as he proved on Someday Blues and tracks on Go My Way! Please
keep up the excellent work on your website. It is brilliant and gives Trower
fans a lot of pleasure - not least in knowing there are so many other equally
dedicated fans of his musicianship and guitar playing out there. Good luck.Take
care.

Trower rules. His playing blends pure emotion with a genuine vein
of poetry, the mans a natural, and we're all hooked. Trower recorded a
seven minute track on a ''Guitar speak'' compilation album, this was quite

Let me tell you that this track is Awesome, with some really beautiful
playing, the label i think is I.R.S records. I recommend Trower fans to

Also Steve, thanks for the e mail. Yeah he has tuned down to E flat

Just found your cool Site. Lots of people are interested in Robin
Trower TAB, well very little of it is available. What i would like to know
is whether Robin tunes to E flat or D,on the hotlicks video he says he
tunes down to D using a fairly heavy string and a high action, but when
listening to most of his music i am sure his guitar is tuned to E flat.
This would help when figuring out many of his licks, i am not really one
to put much faith in TAB...Many of the TAB books i have don't seem right
at all, the Zeppelin ones are at best innacurate. Robins music and his
unique style of playing will always be close to my heart,so much so that
we named our daughter Robynne Alethea after Robin and that great song from
''For Earth Below'',my wife decided on the spelling of Robynne. Last time
i saw him play was when he did the ''Night of the Guitars'' in North London
alongside Laurie Wisefield and Ronnie Montrose and others. The jam at the
end of the show was awesome and i have it on video. Wisefield,Montrose
and Trower all have very different playing styles,it was one of the best
jams i ever heard. Great to know there is a guestbook dedicated to Trower.
Best regards from J.S.

I have to agree with your intro Steve. It's hard to believe its
been at least 25 years since I first heard my first Robin Trower song.
It may sound corny--but I'll never forget it. I was living in Germany (Munich)
at the time--listing to the radio one evening--and not paying much attention--when
like a bolt of lighting, "Little Bit Of Sympathy", came blaring through
the speakers. Needless to say I was completely BLOWN AWAY! I went out the
next day and looked for a copy of BRIDGE OF SIGHS. I certianly wasn't dissapointed!
To this day--in my mind--it stands as one of the best rock albums
of all time. Anyway, THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT WEB SITE!! By the way if anyone
knows of any TAB of Robins guitar work I would be very interested. Thanks
again.

Why doesn't Robin put the old band back together like Journey, Peter
Frampton and Deep Purple are doing? He could cash in on the nostalgia craze
thats happening right now before the window of opportunity passes him by
and give the fans what they really want, the old songs with the old band
members. Maybe he will figure it out soon.

Hi, I have been playing guitar for over thirty years and I remember
the first time a friend of mine told me about a guitar player from Procol
Harum that put out a solo album. He said "He sounds like Hendrix" so being
a Hendrix fanatic at the time, I bought the album and gave it a listen.
From that moment I was hooked. I learned just about every song on that
and the following albums. Over the years I've been lucky enough to see
Robin Trower in concert about 23 times, and I have never seen a "bad" show.
Trower has been an inspiration in my own guitar playing. My favorite music
is blues/rock.

I sympathize with your desire to see Robin Trower, as I have been
in the same situation. My playing was also influenced by trower and, blues/rock
is my musical passion.
I understand that while Robin does not sound like hendrix, he was
most certainly influenced by Hendrix and Robert Johnson. If by chance you
happen to hear of the where-abouts of "Victim of the fury" (entire CD)
please let me know; Iburned the vinyl one up, years ago:)

Hi Steve. Will Robin tour with Roxy Music this summer now that the
Deep Purple tour is off. If not, will Robin be touring the states at all
in 2001. We were not able to see him last year and are hoping he comes

Hello, fellow TROWER PEOPLE--I can't believe it!! I've actually
discovered OTHER PEOPLE who are nuts about Robin Trower...this guy is the
greatest rock guitarist, in my opinion, since Jimi Hendrix; Trower is simply
FABULOUS!! I first really "noticed" his distinctive playing on Procol Harum's
1971 album, BROKEN BARRICADES; to make a long story short, when BRIDGE
OF SIGHS came out in 1974, I was HOOKED. I've seen Trower perform "live"
only twice, at the Ventura Theatre in 1999 and the Galaxy in Santa Ana
in May 2000, but BOTH times he was superb...great web site, I appreciate
it, and keep up the good work. --John Bass

Steve, here's a salute to the Trower fans who put Robin on top of
MP3.com during the month of December. Our goal was 50,000 downloads for
the month. The total number of downloads for December was 51,185. Robin's
songs dominated both the Blues and Blues/Rock charts for the last half
of the month. According to Robin's management, the folks at MP3.com "couldn't
believe the popularity of our Guitar Hero." Look for new additions
to Robin's MP3 file soon. Thanks to all of you who helped make this a Merry
Christmas for Robin and Co.

How did I never see this site before? A big thumbs up! I'm an old
rocker who played locally in Cincy, OH, back in the mid-60's into the late
70's. I think there are only 3 or 4 guitarists worthy of being called great;
Robin is one of them. I got to see him live back when Dave P. was with
his band - awesome experience. I saw Hendrix live too, way back when. No
comparison. Trower wins hands down. I've been a fan since the Procol Harum
days. I've got almost all of Robin's recordings (getting the newest one
for Christmas). I love all his stuff, new and old, but I think one of the
most underrated guitar albums of all time is "Victims of the Fury." When
I listen to "Into the Flame" without getting a body rush, just bury me
cause I'll be dead, at least inside. My wife, Jan, is not much of a rock
fan, but when I put Robin on the old stereo, she says, "That's the way
you're supposed to play the guitar."

Steve, just read your interview with Davey Pattison, and you got
him JUST RIGHT! He has been one of my best friends for almost 20 years
now (God Father to my kids). Knowing him aside, he has one of the most
moving (and sexy) voices I've ever heard. Funny Davey moments? He is SUCH
a musical perfectionist...his wife (ex, now) and I used to push his buttons
something awful! We'd put on something like "Dead or Alive" and he'd go
nuts...he could never understand that you could just like to dance to something,
it didn't have to be a masterpiece! He'd get so mad at us and we'd just
laugh! On another note, it is so nice to hear his blues album. Doing a
solo blues album has always been his dream, and what a dream he shared
with all of us!! Keep up the great site...I am browsing and enjoying myself

I just picked up the Go My Way cd and am happy to say it sounds
like Trower's best in some time. I noticed Robin is touring out in the
west again in October and my friends and I are hoping the band has time
to make it to the Twin Cities this fall. Robin has such a loyal following
and hopefully the Mpls radio stations will wake up and start listening
to what people want to hear and not keep playing the same old Clapton and
the likes of which we are all bored to death of. I am so glad Robin isn't
afraid to play his guitar the way it should be played. (from deep inside
his soul) Congratulations on your trip to so cal to see Trower, Steve.
You got to witness the best this planet has to offer and it sounds like

to inherit Robin's World Class Drummer, Bill Lordan, who plays on my new
album, "LIVE YOUR DREAM"

HEY STEVE. THANKS FOR THE LEAD ON THAT FEB POSTER. I JUST WANTED
TO SAY THAT I'M KIND OF GLAD ROBIN'S MUSIC ISN'T "MAINSTREAM" OR "COMMERCIAL".
US FANS KNOW HOW GIFTED AND TALENTED ROBIN REALLY IS AND THAT'S ALL THAT
MATTERS. I MEAN I'VE TRIED TO TURN A FEW FRIENDS ON TO HIS MUSIC BUT THEY'LL
NEVER QUITE FEEL IT LIKE I DO. YOU GOTTA HAVE A DEEP SOUL AND UNDERSTAND
EVERY NOTE HE BENDS (UNLIKE THESE FAKE RADIO PRODUCERS). I PICTURE ROBIN

Great Site! It's good to see that true artists are kept alive through
sites like these. I was fortunate enough to work as head of security on
certain stops during the passion tour. He could blow away a crowd every
night. What was interesting was to see the crowds grow in size as the night
went on. Many times the crowd would begin as a 100 or so and by the end
of the night it would grow to well over 400-500 easily. We really kept
the fire marshalls busy in those venues :)

I've just checked your site for the first time, Steve and it's so
satisfying to realise the respect there is wordwide for the great Robin
Trower. I've enjoyed Robin's music for 30 years and had the great pleasure
to see him perform in Glasgow during the Victims of the Fury tour in the
70's.He definately does not receive the respect he should from the popular
music press who seem more interested in the Claptons of this world!! Along
with the late great Tommy Bolin, who actually supported Robin during one
of his US tours,he stands head and shoulders above them all,in my opinion.Good
luck and here's hoping Robin tours this side of the pond soon us we feel
a little neglected over here.Cheers,Ed Lamont

Excellent website!!!I saw Trower for the 7th time Saturday night
August 5th at Grant St. Dance Hall in Lafayette, La. This was one of the
best concerts I've seen him play in the last 25 years. This is also the
best trio he's had in years. I just found out from TrowerPower what happened
to Jimmy DeWar. I sent him a message along with my prayers. Richard is
the best singer in the Trower trio since DeWar. After the show, we rode
around the back of the building, & there was Robin sitting in the front
seat of a white Lincoln Towncar calmly signing autographs & taking
his time to speak to each & every one of his fans who were patiently
waiting in line for their turn to meet him. He was a most pleasant, polite
fellow. I thanked him & he shook my hand & thanked ME for being
there. It impressed me that he is one of the few guitar greats that hasn't
forgotten that it's his fans that have helped him achieve the status he
deserves. He's a fine musician & a fine man, all the way around.

fan than ever. Glad to see him out on the road. Last year's show was not

forward to a great show tommorrow and hopefully an autograph. Will write

Steve-Just a short note concerning the July 11th show in Indianapolis.
RT was in top form, not missing a lick. At age 55, his skill level is still
top notch. Richard's vocals were "perfectly" complimentary. And of course
Alvino's drumming was dynamic. "Loud and Proud" for all who were fortunate
enough to attend. By the way, great w-site. I also loved your article on

Hello USA, I've been a fan since the seventies, when Day of the
Eagle knocked me out. I have since collected all of Robin's music, both
on vinyl and again on CD. I was lucky enough to see Trower live on two
occasions in England, once at Birmingham Odeon circa '76 and also at Leicester
University in 1979, when he was supported by Samson (Bruce Dickinson's
band before he joined Iron Maiden). At both gigs his band had the classic
Bill Lordan / James Dewar lineup, and the power of their playing was awesome.
I remember my ears ringing for days afterwards ! I do hope that Robin decides
to tour in the UK again before too long, as he still has many fans here
who want to see his superb guitar playing.

Hi Steve, I just finished reading your interview with Mr.Pattison
and really enjoyed it! I met Robin after a ‘Victims of the Fury’ show in
77 where James Dewar sang a very soulful Hannah. And as singers for Trower
in the post/ Dewar age I gotta tell you that Davey Pattison was the best,
on the record, or live! I really miss their collaboration and thank you
for encouraging a reunion if possible. I'm looking forward to this new
return to Rock cd from Trower and hopefully this new singer does not sound
as muddy as his last(Livingston). Also where can I get some sound and footlage

Steve, I saw Robin Trower in Paris (France) in 1976. A tough concert
for him if I remember well. The opening act was Thin Lizzy who never played!
They made us wait more than an hour, then Lynott and another guy went on
stage telling the crowd they had a bus accident on their way to Paris and
couldn't play. Linnot had his left arm in a cast. People yelled at them.
Then Trower and his band played. The crowd was really wild. I never understood
why people were throwing stuff in his direction. At some point during a
long solo a beer can landed on Trower's head. I clearly remember the object
bouncing up from his skull. He quickly rushed back and looked around, scared,
while still playing his solo. After that he was really pissed, played another
20 minutes and left. What a night.

Thanks for the site, I am only somewhat familiar with his music.
My older brother is a big fan, but like you he has never had the opportunity
to see him live. I fortunately have the opportunity to see him tonight
at a local club in Spokane WA, 5/10/00. Beings I didn't know a whole lot
about him, it was nice to be able to get some information from your web
site as well as others. Thanks again, and if I'm able to speak with him,
I will tell him thanks for the inspiration! Darryl Jacobs

I was thrilled to find this outstanding web site, and I always knew
I wasn't alone! I am a drummer, and Robin has always been at the top of
my list of favorite guitarists. I have seen him twice, and had the luck
of saying hello and shaking his hand once. I always have about thirty students
here in Phoenix, and all of them learn a Trower tune or two! That way his
music is being passed down to a new generation of musicians, hopefully
influencing them in a positive way. Great work Steve, and thank you.

THANK YOU STEVE FOR THE OUTSTANDING SITE. BEST TROWER SITE I HAVE
FOUND YET. YOU CAPTURE THE ESSENSE OF THE MAN WHO MANY OF US BELIEVE TO
BE THE BEST GUITAR PLAYER IN THE WORLD TODAY. I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHY
ROBIN AND HIS MUSIC HAS BEEN BLACK-BALLED BY THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IN GENERAL
AND THE RADIO STATIONS SPECIFICALLY. WHEN PEOPLE HEAR HIS MUSIC THEY ARE
BLOWN AWAY BY HIS SOUND AND WONDER WHY THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF HIM. I
HAVE SEEN HIM PLAY IN FRONT OF 18,000 PEOPLE IN 1974 AT THE MET CENTER
IN BLOOMINGTON, MN AND ALSO IN FRONT OF 800 PEOPLE AT THE CABOOSE BAR IN
MINNEAPOLIS IN 1992. HE TRUELY LOVES WHAT HE DOES AND RESPECTS THE FANS
WHO COME TO LISTEN TO HIM. I MET HIM IN 1998 AT THE MEDINA BALLROOM OUTSIDE
AND HE TALKED WITH US FOR A FEW MINUTES. HE IS A KIND, KIND MAN. MANY OF
MY MUSICAL FRIENDS ARE HOPING HE COMES TO MINNESOTA THIS SUMMER ON HIS
"GO MY WAY" TOUR. HE WILL SELL OUT ANY VENUE HE GETS TO PLAY. ONCE AGAIN
THANK YOU MUCH FOR THE BEAUTIFUL AND INFORMATIVE SITE. YOU AND ROBIN ARE
THE BEST.

Steve; While reading Your interview I felt
that it was very interesting and very well-done. I felt that it read like
a book. The nature of the questions asked were what people who are fans
would want to know. You have a knack for posing questions that kept the
interview interesting and moving along. Chronologically it covered much
of my musical career. I'm looking forward to meeting You and attending
a Robin Trower concert with You and my band members in May. Thank-You for
all of Your hard work on making this interview happen. You obviously spent
a lot of time on putting this together and it looks great. I'm curious
to read what the feedback will be because I'm sure everyone will enjoy
it. Thanks again for the time You and Your wife spent on my story. And

Once again, Steve, I must praise you on your dedication and hard
work for providing us (Trower fans worldwide) with such a wonderful web
site. It is clearly the class of the field. Your initial story demonstrated
to me what I have always found is that Robin really enjoys making his music
and enjoys sharing it with his fans. Every time I have waited after a show
for an autograph, he has always been so accomodating even after some really
exhausting performances. Its not hard to understand why he has such a loyal
following. I don't think I can wait for him to reach the midwest. I just
may have to take a trip to CA to catch one of the early gigs. Thanks again,
Steve, for all your hard work on this jewel of a web site. I'm sure Robin
would be proud.

Many thanks for the great Bill Lordan interview, especially the
info on James Dewar's solo album "Stumbledown Romancer." Since
I last posted about this CD, I learned that it has gone out of print after
selling out its first run. Chrysalis/UK never gave it any support and if
it weren't for the excellent UK mail order house CeeDee Mail, and the Internet,
no one would have known about it. There's obviously still a
demand for the CD, so how do we encourage Chrysalis to reissue it? Suggestions
welcomed. Thanks again to Steve for this excellent Site! Best, Joan May

Wow! Steve, your website is an inspiring tribute to a man who I
consider to be THE MOST under-rated guitarist in history. I am moved by
your sincerity & dedication. I thought I was the only living Trower
fanatic left. I've seen The Master 6 times, each time better than the last.
The most recent, which was way too long ago, was at Portland's Roseland
Theatre in '93. As usual, the show left me both awe-stricken at HIS mastery
of the blues, & stupified that this guitar wizard is STILL completely
ignored by everyone except his loyal, loving fans. I am on pins & needles

I play part time in a fun rock band and was hoping to find some
lyrics for some of the Trower classics, especially those on "Bridge of
Sighs". You wouldn't believe how hard it was for a few of us to decipher
the "...I know I laghed out loud, but that was then.." line in "Too Rollin'
Stoned" so we could do our hommage version in clubs without being complete
dorks (except for our attempts at re-creating his fluid solos). Next we
want to add "Lady Love" and "Bridge of Sighs" to our set list and were
hoping to find a fan site sith the lyrics ACCURATELY recorded. As an avid
fa, do you have any suggestions for us? "Too Rolling Stoned" (even our
version) goes over so well at clubs it made us want to cover a few more,
since we're all Trower fans in this rock cover band here in San Diego.
Thanks for any help you can give us.

Great job, Steve. I've been a devoted Trower fan and collector since
I first heard Victims of the Fury in 1980. I certainly remember hearing
Robin Trower's music in the early seventies and the trademark vocals of
Jim Dewar, but I didn't get hooked until I heard "Jack and Jill", "Roads
to Freedom", and "Only Time". Because of military overseas service, it
would be eight years later before I would see him live in Salinas CA in
Feb 88 (just prior to "Take What You Need"). Since then, I've made it a
point to see him at every available oportunity on every tour. I've been
to 12 concerts and the only place to see Robin is in the front row. Robin's
talents as a guitarist and songwriter are vastly underrated, so it is a
real joy to see so many people who appreciate Robin for the performer and
for the class act person he is. Steve, your site is totally awesome. Look
forward to visiting it again.

Steve; Your efforts are especially appreciated by one who was a
fan of Robin's as far back as 1967 during his Procol Harum days. I have
amassed a collection of vinyl, cassettes, and CDs of everything that Robin
has done up through 20th Century Blues. I had the distinct pleasure of
seeing Robin live at Chicago's House of Blues April 1, 1999, accompanied
by my son and youngest brother, also ardent fans. Bridge of Sighs was the
album that did it
for me, and while James Dewar was the consumate voice of Robin Trower,

you all make me look like rookie. A Trower show is like partying with 500
of you closest friends, all hooked together by a mystical dream. The site

Hi Steve!Great Website! To all the Trower fans who visit this site
and are thinking of trading some of Steve's tapes, take my advice and GET
THEM! I have some and they are excellent! The KRQR show, and the Live at
the BBC show are favorites as well as the early tapes. Thanks Steve! To
me Robin Trower is the most expressive and emotional guitarist today. His
music is, and will always be a constant source of inspiration! Contact:

GREAT HOMEPAGE ! I´ve been a Trower fan since late 70´s.
I think he is the only one that still carries the heritage of Hendrix and
Stevie Ray Vaughn further. No one else comes near. /Mats Dahlin,

Good sight. I have been looking at alot of trower sights and am
finding that really does have a good following. I agree he is one of the
many underated guitarists around. Being a guitarist and a fan of his, I
can't help but to be infuenced by this guy along with others from trowers
hayday like "Frank Marino" etc. Keep up the good work!

ATTENTION: BILL LORDAN!!! I noticed that you were in here, and should
you return, could you please respond to this: My favorite album is "Long
Misty Days", but other than "Messin' The Blues" I have never heard any
other tracks live. Did you guys go on tour for that album, and if so, what
songs from it were performed? More importantly, how can a fan such as myself
get some of that stuff recorded live? Please help!!! Thanks for all the
great music - You are an amazing drummer!

Steve, I really enjoyed visiting your web page and plan to return
often in the future. I am a guitar player of 20+ years and have been a
Trower fan even longer. I saw him in 76 with Golden earring as the opening
act here in Birmingham. The stage had a backdrop with a photo of the lunar
surface all lit up in green. He was having problems with his fx pedals
and apologized to the audience for his "f***ing equipment", but still put
on a mesmerizing show. Thank you for taking time to answer my e-mail and
KEEP ON ROCKIN'

Just wanted to drop you a line and tell you how much I enjoyed looking
over your web site. I too have been a big fan of Robin's since I first
heard "In This Place" - a long, long time ago. That song and "Daydream"
made me pick up a guitar and learn how to play. I have closely followed
his career and have been fortunate enough to see him play 12 times (but
who is counting). I have always felt that he is really a guitar players
guitar player. Reading
the letter from him was just amazing - what a great story. I have
always believed Robin to be a truly nice person. Even though I have never
met him, he smiles a lot on stage and seems genuinely thankful and humbled
when the audience showers him with applause at the end of yet another outstanding
solo. Listening to interviews and watching his hot licks video he just
comes accross as such a down to earth human being. Your own stories
reinforce this. His playing just seems to touch something inside,
I don't know how else to describe it. Thanks for putting up the site -
I will stop back again and look into some of the tapes and videos. I believe
I was even at some of those shows!

first,...many kudos on the most excellent webpage!!! second,...it's
so refreshing to find fellow TROWER fans as dedicated as myself. being
a stratocaster lover, i'll give you two guesses as to who my main influences
are. duh...lemme see...? i've seen TROWER many times, whenever he comes
to my area, and he continually blows me away!! the technique this man posseses
is without a doubt enviable to the point of insanity.(good lord ...i'd
literally KILL for his vibrato!!) jimi hendrix, while being the INNOVATOR,was,in
my humble opinion, sloppy as shit in most live situations; except for those
moments(band of gypsies) TROWER has NEVER disappointed me LIVE. ENOUGH
GUSHING!!! STEVE thanks for a bit of musical sanity on this musically godforsaken
web!!

You've got a great site! I had the pleasure of seeing RT in a small
club near here in '86. That was awesome! We were so close to the stage
we could reach out and touch him! Keep up the good work Steve!

Dear Steve: "I can't wait much longer" for the two articles to be
placed on line--particularly that 1980 feature article. ALSO, it may be
useful if you could kindly place your email address somewhere so that I
may contact you for a trade. I have much video footage and I would like
some of your audio. Oh yeah, Hi Bill -- Lord of the Drums! Best wishes,

It was inspirational and rekindled interest in the man. I will be checking
out your site further. Looking for information on Dewar and his condition.

Thanks, Steve. I will come back and visit often. As a big fan of
Procol Harum I was turned on to Robin's playing back in the 60's. I saw
him perform this summer in St. Louis and he is truly amazing to this day.
He becomes the guitar. I don't know of any other artist who enjoys playing
any more than Robin Trower and it shows. I would love to see him do one
more album with Gary Brooker, perhaps with Matthew Fisher and Jack Bruce.
What a
blues dimmension they could create! Thanks for this great site.

Steve: thanks for this fine website, it's obvious that you are putting
alot of work into it, and thank you very much for the great '74 Guitar
Player article, i've been wanting to read it forever. And let me take this
chance to say, Robin Trower, if you ever stop by this page, this is one
fan who does NOT and never did buy into the "hendrix imitator" horseshit.
You have your own guitar voice and i heard that from the first time i ever
heard your music,
back in 73 or 74. Guitar players: i'm looking for Guitar issue December
95, in which "Too Rolled Stoned" was transcribed. if anybody could copy
that tab for me,including the bassline, i've got all kinds of tabs, magazines
and songbooks, to trade. Almost anything you might want.

Hi Steve! Great Trower Pages! If you haven't already, check out
his incredible and largely overlooked work on Procol Harum's First album
-- a wildly unique sound and some of his very best, in my opinion, and
it was his opinion too in that 1980 Guitar Player interview. Glad you got
a copy of James Dewar's Stumbledown Romancer CD, with Matthew Fisher on
keyboards and producing. Anyone wanting this CD can order it from the very
reliable UK Mail Order house, CeeDee Mail. See the URL I entered above
(hopefully correctly)
for links to several pages about this CD inlcuding the ordering
info. Best, Joan :-)

Great site Steve!! Its awesome cuz you cover some territory the
other two main RT sites don't. I enjoyed your RT correspondence/personal
story page very much. He's truly an awesome dude and best guitarist. The
articles on RT are most excellent. I haven't seen most of them. I am less
interested in the audio tapes. Do ya have any of his videos? They are hot.
Thanx for the great web site. Best regards. George
