Lisa has been bookbinding since 2001 with a focus on studying traditional binding and working on mastering technique. The majority of her work lately has been book conservation, commissions for clients, and book restoration. Lisa is a member of the Canadian Association for Conservation and the American Institute of Conservation. She is currently Exhibitions Director for the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild.
Training
Lisa has a Business degree from the University of Alberta. Her foundational art studies were taken through the Alberta College of Art and Design. Lisa started as a bookbinder for Colin Bate Books in Calgary. She studied book and paper conservation and fine binding through the American Academy of Bookbinding. She attended the Virginia Rare Book School on scholarship to deepen her knowledge of book history. Lisa has studied conservation chemistry though International Academic Projects and regularly takes conservation workshops through the American Institute of Conservation. Lisa has volunteered in the paper lab at the Glenbow Museum in Calgary and received their Significant Treasure Award for her work.
Lisa is committed to the highest level or craftsmanship and takes several weeks every year to study with a master bookbinder or finisher. Lisa has pursued bookbinding training through the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild distance learning program as well as with bookbinders and finishers like Monique Lallier, Helene Jolis, Don Etherington and Reg Beatty.
