I used to see Rose on the streets of the lower east side of Vancouver, BC on rare occasions.

This image came about when she asked me one day if I wanted to take her picture. For a couple of cigarettes, she offered me this look.

I've been haunted by the expression her face portrays in this image ever since.

The garish makeup ground into her wrinkled face mirrors a very bold sense of self.
