Creativity Knows No Bound

The second illy collection presents the works of six artists from
different fields for a harmonious, yet wry result. The six cups, not
merely decorated, attempt to attract and delight people drinking the
coffee; even making them smile. Paolo Rossetti, Art Director,
transformed the handle into an ear, while Anna Maria Testa,
Creative Director, proposed an almost sexy cup decorated with
phrases. Photographer Franco Fontana portrayed a relaxing
landscape, designer Giorgio Galli covered his with numbers, and
designer Beatrice Santiccioli played with shapes and ideograms
while Francesco Illy was inspired by metropolitan graffiti.

First Collection

Thanks to this collection, young German artist Simone Meentzen
had a chance to make a very special debut. She was able to display
her talent to a large crowd who loved good coffee. The abstract and
figurative subjects of the six cups revealed the delicate sensibility of
a mature style. She skillfully used colors in her collection: warm
shades in O Sole Mio and At the Seaside, decisive tints in Three
Colors, soft hues in Lyric Ornamentation, and sensuous colors in
Paradise Found and the Blue Knight.
