Neuspeed Soft Sport Lowering Springs

These springs are no longer available from Neuspeed.

I feel very lucky to have found these. I got them from a fellow in Pickering Ontario. His wagon had been written off and he had kept some of the parts.

I felt so lucky to get them that I thought I should try to protect them. Before having them installed I had them sand blasted, then coated with a zinc primer and then an epoxy top coat.

Here they are back from the shop.
soft sport springs The front springs measure 12 1/8 inches tall, 4 3/4 inches in diameter and are made from 7/16 inch wire.
The rears are 10 3/4 inches tall, 5 3/4 inches in diameter and wound from 1/2 inch wire.

foxon14s When we bought the car it actually sat quite low. The worn suspension parts often gave the impression of being in a boat. The nose would rise on and acceration and dip on braking. Once on an entrance ramp I thought the car was going to roll. Time to replace some bits. As the suspension was rebuilt with new shocks and sway bars etc., the car regained its tall factory stance. The handling and ride were improved dramatically but vehicles stance was starting to resemble a rally car.

Wheel Gap was a Full Fist after the suspension was refurbished.

When installed the springs lowered the car 1 7/8 inches at the front and 1 5/8 inches at the rear.

Fox Low
After the Spring Install the whell gap is down to three fingers.

The ride is a bit rougher than with the stock springs. It is not harsh. Spax on a Rabbit was harsh.

The combination of the springs, new shocks, bushings, tie rod end, sway bars and an alignment has changed the cars ride characteristics dramatically. The end result is flat corners. Very, very little roll. There is no mushy bouncing. The car does not sit down on acceleration (much) or dip on braking. The ride height feels "right" when sitting in the car. The wheel wells are nicely filled.

The car with this set up has become a smile generator. Even sitting in rush hour traffic is fun in the car now. A twisty bit of road brings an ear to ear grin. Anyone in the car gets asked at least once  per trip, "Doesn't the car feel great?" I feel I have reached the goal of slot car like handling.
