JASON
Chiron is the main protagonist of Hot Springs. Hefs also a musician. He plays guitar and piano - taught to him by his father, Dada, who is a very accomplished musician in his own rights and who plays more than ten instruments which he learned growing up on Cape Breton Island. At the end of Chapter I, Jason takes a  ferry from Vancouver to Hot Springs Island. He goes out on deck to look over the rail at the indigo ocean – beautiful but opaque. He knows that the water is hundreds of feet deep in this spot and thinks about everything under the surface. This inspires him to write a new song called, appropriately, Under the Surface.
