John Stott (1921 - )

John Stott is considered by many to be the most important and influential Christian leader and teacher of our time. His academic credentials are impeccable, and his writings extensive. Yet, despite his many achievements, it is his humility and deep Christian love for others that draws people to him. Much of his writing is directed to the layperson searching for scriptural truth. Basic Christianity, for example, is a best seller and a wonderful introduction to our faith.

John Stott finds himself in the unique position of being accepted by the established churches, while at the same time being critical of their practices. He raises such questions as Is Jesus the Lord of the Church, or is the Church the Lord of Jesus? He continually challenges us to make Jesus Lord in our lives, and to return to scriptural teaching. His writing, teaching and preaching is focussed on clear, understandable exposition of the scriptures as originally written.
