I went shopping the other day, and ended up at a store named Winners. I bought
couple of shirts from their Young Men’s department. When I took the shirts up
to pay for them, I mentioned to the clerk that maybe I was too old to be buying
clothes from their Young Men’s department. "Well at least you’re trendy," she
replied.
I’m 68 years old, and I never have been trendy. At one time I felt that I was
stylish, or fashionable or that my clothes were “in”, but I have never been
trendy. Never again will I be fashionable or stylish. Now I am trendy. Not only
do fashions in clothes change, so do the words that describe them. Actually, I
like the word “trendy”. It conveys the essence of fashion, because fashions are
always changing, and trendy is a word that suggests change.
I am looking for a store that has an Old Fart’s department, but until I find
one, I will keep buying from the Young Men’s department. In the meantime I am
waiting for the trends to change to the point where the clothes I have in my
closet are trendy again.
Then again, I might not live that long.
Anybody want to buy a Nehru jacket?
