BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Jolene Cumming has been producing and presenting local women’s history programs and special historical events since 2001 and is the co-founder and co-coordinator of the Herstory Cafe.

She presents at museums, historical societies, conferences, schools, community and senior’s centres. As well, she works for tourist groups, festivals, clubs, organizations, social and private groups. She has coordinated the Vancouver Museum’s annual International Women’s Day celebration and their Women’s History Program from 2002-2006, launched The History of the Women of Stanley Park, 1860-1914 six part walking tour series with Stanley Park Ecology Society in 2003, and is currently co-coordinator of the monthly Herstory Cafe.

Jolene is a board member of The Friends of the Vancouver Archives and the Women's History Network of British Columbia. Her recent projects include: coordinating the 2010 Women's History Fair at the VPL, the 2008 poster series Remarkable Women: Honouring women from our Vancouver communities with The Arts and Culture Office of the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation and The Women of Mount Pleasant Historical Walking Tour sponsored by the Neighbourhood Small Grants Project and the Vancouver Foundation.

Jolene also draws stories from her own family history. Her first family member came to British Columbia in 1875 and is the fourth generation of women in her family to have lived in Vancouver.
