Jewellery made with bike parts?

Regula Walter started Hardwear (re)cycling Jewellery in 1997 after her family became engrossed in mountain biking and she took up the sport with Women's Only.

"Everyone around me was learning to mountain bike and we were so excited about it," says Regula.

Her daughter began making crude jewellery out of old bicycle chains and that's when Regula realized something:

"People like to wear things that say something about themselves and Hardwear does that."

Regula soon noticed her product didn't just appeal to cyclists, but to anyone looking for something different.

She began selling Hardwear at local craft fairs and a bike shop or two. There are now a dozen Hardwear dealers in North America.

"Hardwear is very practical," Regula says with a grin. "If your bike breaks on the trails, you're wearing spare parts!"
