To register with the club, visit karelo.com and sign up for membership. Full membership includes registration to Edmonton Thunder and Athletics Alberta (AA), coaching, training facilities, entries to AA sanctioned meets, eligibility for club awards, and scholarship recommendations.

 

Notice to all Athletes: Change in Training Times and Location

Mini Boltz (all practices stay at 5pm):

Tuesday, Feb 21:

  • Rideau Park Elementary School Gym (10605-42 Ave).

Thursday, Feb 23:

  • Butterdome

Tuesday, Feb 28:

  • Kinsmen Centre (Sign in at front desk under "Edmonton Thunder")

Thursday March 3:

  • Butterdome

Rusty Boltz and Glen's Athletes:

Training for week of Feb 20 - 24th (all workouts at Butterdome):

Training is Monday 10am to 12pm, Tuesday 8-10am, Friday at 5pm.

Mon Speed Fartlek - 45min long with short intervals of 20-40sec fast
Wed 20min tempo at 10k race pace
Fri 6x2min at 1500m pace with 2min jog recovery

 

About Us

Edmonton Thunder is a community based, not-for-profit minor sports association committed to developing and promoting the sport of athletics in Edmonton since 1994. The club is affiliated with Athletics Alberta and provides training and support to athletes competing in cross-country running, indoor and outdoor track and field.

Our goal is to help each person acheive their personal best, developing their athletic abilities to realize their full potential.

We do not have tryouts, and accept anyone ages 6 and up, working with young people who are eager to improve.

Indoor Training

Mini-Boltz (Ages 6 - 14)

Indoor practises are held each Tuesday and Thursday at 5pm at the Butterdome.

Junior/Senior/Masters (15+)

Indoor training is held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5pm at the U of A Butterdome.These sessions are held jointly with the University of Alberta Bears and Pandas Cross Country teams. Come spiked up and psyched up!

Golden Bear Open Results

Edmonton Thunder had a number of athletes compete January 20th - 22nd at the U of A Butterdome. Many athletes had impressive results, making the Blue & Gold proud! For a complete list of results, click here.

Last Chance Meet Results

Congratulations to all Thunder Athletes who competed at the Last Chance Meet held at the Butterdome on December 3rd. Many athletes set new personal bests, while others were competing in their first track & field meet, giving their best effort.

CROSS COUNTRY ACTION

Canadian Cross Country Championships

It was most likely one of the muddiest cross country races on record, and we have had some muddy ones. Rain started pouring down on Jericho Beach the night before and did not let up all day. The course was most challenging with the mud and  Congratulations to Mike Secker, Bob Holmes, Cliff Russell, Beto Bus who competed on November 26th at the Canadian Cross Country Championships at Jericho Beach in Vancouver, BC.

Alberta Age Class Provincials - November 5, 2011

Mini-Boltz Storm Alberta!

Edmonton Thunder added another first to the list on November 5th, with its first Provincial Cross Country Title in the Pee-Wee Boys Category. Everyone had a strong race, and the effort paid off with gold medals for the boys. Well done! Full results can be found here.
