December 2016

Sad news.. well, more irritating than anything. Just received an announcement from my webspace provider that they are shutting down the webspace I am currently using for this website. Bugger.

SO. On March 7th, 2017 the original URL (members.shaw.ca/happypuppyrecords) will no longer work. So please instead bookmark:

---> happypuppyrecords.ca <---

This URL will take you to whereever the site is being hosted - at this point, I'm investigating my options but rest assured the FMA and Bandcamp pages will always be online. Thanks for visiting and have a happy new year.

October 2016

WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON?! Wow.. so many months without updates. Sorry about that. But doesn't mean things aren't happening! How's this? THREE new albums to tell you about (and there's another secret thing on the way). First up, Lee released two albums this summer: Music For Podcasts 3 and just last week, Time-Lapse Vol 4: Sleep Music! And if that weren't enough, he also produced and mixed a project by the Freeharmonic Orchestra, which is a sort-of supergroup of artists from the Free Music Archive - Volume 1 is up now! Get listening!

June 2016

Announcing a brand new Rockit Maxx single! The track "Be Electric" was released today, available on Bandcamp and FMA, and also check out the music video for it, sourced completely from 80s commercials courtesy of Dave's Retro Commercial Archives!

May 2016

So we've done 100 albums - what's #101 gonna be? A new album by Unthunk! Yes, the musical brains of Bowen Island's Trevor Tunnacliffe returns with a new concept/story album that follows in the chamber/early music style of Unthunk's previous releases. It's called Plumb Abysm and it's over here - go listen!

April 2016

We've done it - release #100! Holy doodle. It's been in-the-works for a couple of months now and it's out today - Lee's retrowave EP Synthcronicity! Seriously, nobody has used that title before. In addition to his Rockit Maxx project, here's 5 synthwavey tunes for you - 2 drastic remake/remixes of older tracks and 3 brand new ones. Free download as always, available on FMA and BC - truly outrageous!

March 2016

Helllooo! Welcome to the first official release of 2016.. as you tell from the amount of time since postings, we're still taking a slow to turtleish amount of activity, but we do have something to mention - Lee's brand new Music For Podcasts 2 is out... and it's release #99 - whoa! You can get it at FMA or Bandcamp in lossless, and we hope you enjoy it and let us know if you use it in your podcasts.

December 2015

Happy Holidays! We will be taking a break from releasing anything officially for a while, but we've got one more release before the year is out, and it's by Cagey House! It's also the last Cagey House release. Yup, the last one ever, and we've got it here for free download so please share and enjoy. See you in 2016!

November 2015

Ah, yes it's been awhile! We are in the middle of taking some time off from the label - give ourselves a little break so we don't burn out, but we have something coming very soon... but for now, we'd like to encourage you to head over to the Free Music Archive, who are running their first-ever fundraiser. Now we wouldn't have nearly half our success without the FMA, and if you've ever enjoyed any of our releases, please consider a donation to keep them going. Thank you in advance!

September 2015

It's here! A long-in-progress project is now available - we hinted at this last month, but we're very excited to announce the long-form EP debut release of Rockit Maxx! It's in the style of retrowave, synthwave and maybe even a little vaporwave thrown in, and basically for anyone who digs 80's-styled instrumental pop synth music. Available at the FMA and also in lossless at Bandcamp. Totally outrageous!

August 2015

Happy end of August! Yes, we know it's been a whole month without an update, but things are happening! Just now we finished uploading tracks from a brand new artist to our label, much,! AKA Zach Bridier, his first EP, entitled This is EP #1 is now available for free download. Welcome to the puppy pound, Zach!

Once again, we took part in the BFW Recordings Album in A Day #10 project, held in August 22, 2015. The track sent in is a bit of a preview for an upcoming release... in fact, some of the tracks by this artist have been available since January.. ssh! It's all a secret. See if you can find out who is it, and stay tuned for more!

And if you follow us on Bandcamp, then you already know about this.. but if not, there is a new compilation of recent tracks that Lee Rosevere did of remixes, or using samples from online friends to build new tracks. Remixes tracks are inspired by Chris Zabriskie, Gurdonark, Marc Weidenbaum, Terry Gross from NPR and even *THE* Heather Feather of ASMR fame! Tingles!

July 2015

Happy Netlabel Day! Yes, July 14th celebrates all netlabels around the world, including over 80 new album releases and two of them are right here on Happy Puppy! c. reider who runs the Vuzh Music netlabel shares with us his newest and first release on our little label, and it's also the long-awaited third album in the Uncle Neptune trilogy! Yes, In A Perfect World is available now! Download, listen and share and thank you for visiting and being a part of the netlabel community.

June 2015

Ok, so we released a new album by Lee Rosevere on Thursday, June 18th called Music For Podcasts. It's licensed a BY-SA, to allow for podcasters who have sponsors to use it without additional permission. In less than 24 hours, it has over to 5000 listens and downloads on FMA, and NPR's Planet Money already used it in their show. I have no idea how they found it so fast, but that's very awesome and we're totally chuffed. Podcast away!

June is here, and there's already stuff to report.. and there's a ton of stuff to come! First up, Lee remixed a Kyle Bobby Dunn song exclusively for KL Sealegs Below the Decks radio program on CFRC - you can only hear it if you download the full hour from their archive page [mp3], which is only available for a few months and then it's gone!

Hot off the virtual presses.. a debut artist on HPR! Taker 51 is a 'post-rock' project from Spain, blending elements of prog-rock, ambient, electronic.. it's called Lorem Ipsum and everything is done by Raul Diaz, who has been recording his own music since 1998. Enjoy!

Also Lee recently did a rambly interview with Ryno The Bearded on his Creative Commons podcast show. Surprisingly, they hardly talked about music. You can download the podcast here, and also explore his site if you want to get into CC music, there's so much of it there!

May 2015

Have you heard of Matt Farley? If not, you're in for a treat.. he's a Beloved American Folkhero. He's written and recorded over 17,000 songs since 2008, makes movies, podcasts, goes on long walks... he does everything. Anyway, you can stream all of his songs on Spotify or buy them on iTunes OR you can download this free album of scores from his films! Get all the details here! Yes, I'm shouting!

Brand new release! And a new artist to the roster.. Jess Lemont! She's been recording her own unique style of DIY music for a number of years and is very prolific on her Be A Waterwolf soundcloud page. She self-released an album called A Truly Fun Place back in 2003, and we're re-releasing it for free download. Enjoy!

And Lee contributed another original track for the latest episode of the Myoclonic Jerk podcast by Dan Kaufman. This one's all about being evil! Not telling you that it has some adult language would be evil of me.

April 2015

And another new release for April.. the band Unthunk have recorded a brand new album called Jumblesque - it carries on in the same complex musical vein as their previous work. Many layers to enjoy - available now for free download.

New Time-Lapse album! Yes, Volume 3 has just been released - music inspired by ASMR videos, which we use for relaxation purposes (sadly, no tingles).. so you can imagine the music is quite similar. Get it right now at FMA or Bandcamp. And we also have a couple of albums from new artists to the Happy Puppy family in the coming weeks.. all will be revealed. Stay tuned!

March 2015

15 seconds of fame have literally come our way, with the Free Music Archive's 15-Second Microsong Challenge! Out of hundreds of entries (over 20 of them by us), Lee's track "Summers Playing Pinball" was the runner-up! Yay!

The track is available as a free public domain download, as are all of the entries. And congrat's to our online buddy Breakmaster Cylinder for snagging the winning song! Here's a playlist of all the tracks:

February 2015

February so far is turning out pretty busy! On Tuesday, February 10 Lee was interviewed on CFRC by K.L. Sealegs for her Below the Decks program, and you can listen to it below!

CFRC Below The Decks - interview with Lee Rosevere by Happypuppy on Mixcloud

Lee appeared for the second time on the Music Manumit podcast - you can check out the episode here, or subscribe to their podcast, as they always have interesting interviews with artists from the Creative Commons world.

Also just released is an album of 'Fog Music' by Lee for the Aural Films netlabel. The music was written in September 2014, and in January 2015 Lee recorded some new compositions that fit the theme, so he's releasing a separate version with selected pieces from Fog Music album in a new album called Still Water - you have to download both to get all the music, but they're both free! Available at Bandcamp and FMA.

And we forgot to mention that back in December, the BBC used a track from The Ambient Baby in a documentary about Sister Aimee. We're extremely pleased to be in same company as other Creative Commons legends like Podington Bear and Chris Zabriskie.

January 2015

Also released this month was a remix chain album, created from the Ninja Tune online forum. Multiple remixes were made out of the original track "Toastboat" by Tim Koch, and Lee participated in the remixing shenanigans. You can download all 14 remixes for free over at Shinobi Cuts bandcamp site.

Happy New Year! The first official release of 2015 is out - Collected Works 2004-2014 by KL Sealegs!

Fans of Happy Puppy might recognize her name from the numerous airplays she's given Lee Rosevere's music over the past year at CFRC radio in Kingston, ONT. And when we found out she makes music herself, we got her to put together an album of her original sound art pieces.

Wait - there's more! A companion fundraising album released at the same time of music written by LR exclusively for her show. Stay tuned - more exciting music to come this month!
