Not sure if you're aware, but nearly every single release on our site is hosted by the wonderful Internet Archive - we couldn't do any of this without them.
And they are fundraising this month, and every donation will be matched x3 by an anonymous donor. Also, any proceeds from digital download sales/donations we get from our Bandcamp page will be donated to IA as well, so please give if you can.
Our last release of 2013 before we go off for the holiday break is another debut group on Happy Puppy, Tytia Mina Teremina from Lithuania! Please enjoy their single "Blitzkugel" that comes from their new album Bananas Bankomate. Happy holidays and thanks to everyone who's visited the site and made another wonderful year and of sharing music possible.
Also brand new music from a debut artist on Happy Puppy... Fire To The Stars! This six-piece band features members from Melbourne and Stockholm and the two-track single Keep You Safe is recommended for fans of shoegaze/alternative dream-pop-ambient.
It's not exactly easy-listening, but it is very rewarding: Peter DiPhillips returns to Happy Puppy with his third outing for us.. this time, a concept album based on his Irish ancestors during The Great Famine.
The Master is Pleased! We had many submissions for our Manos: Remix of Fate album that we're splitting it up into two releases. The first volume came out October 23rd featuring 16 tracks of experimental downtempo goodness and Volume 2 is available now!
We here at Happy Puppy are extremely happy and proud to reissue a Canadian classic.. after being offline for too many years, we are beginning to re-release albums by the one and only UNCLE NEPTUNE! Yes, I'm shouting!
October just started today and we already have news - Lee spent this past Saturday working on a track to submit for the netlabel BFW Recording's Album in A Day series - and he's on it, along with 4 hours of other musicians!
The submission window for our MANOS: Remix of Fate album are now closed - thanks to everyone who sent in something, the compilation will be released about 2 weeks before Halloween... stay tuned!
Big thanks to Kent Davies, host of Amateur Hour on CKUW in Winnipeg, for letting Lee on to babble on for an hour about Happy Puppy and spin some demented ditties from Lee's personal playlist for their Pass The Mic event. If you missed it, the podcast is online for downloading, or listen below:
If you heard the show and you're new here, welcome! Here's the Bob Purse album you can download for free!
Our second #CCmixtape is out! It's all about the changing of the season, as autumn officially starts today (Sunday) at 1:44pm pst. Once again, this mix features BY-NC Creative Commons music accompanied by autumnal readings from the librivox site.
Happy September! We wanted to let you know that Lee's album Fluxwax, originally released for sale in 2010 is now available for free. Fill your boots!
And speaking of boots! Brand new music from a brand new band: Unthunk is the latest to join the HP roster, we're very pleased to release their debut single to the world. Please enjoy these two songs, as the leader of the band is currently working on new music that is expected to be released on Happy Puppy in the near future.
It's been two years since his last release on our netlabel, but we're pleased to present a new mini-LP from Cagey House. It's a little different from last time, but extremely engaging and accesibly experimental.
Well, there's a first for everything! Our thanks to radio station CFRC at Queen's University in Kingston for spinning Lee's album Time-Lapse Vol.2 enough times that it landed in the top 10 electronic charts for two weeks.. thanks CFRC! (who wants some screen shots?)
We're pleased to announce a new series of Creative Commons mixtapes here on Happy Puppy! It's kinda like a podcast, but kinda not. The first one is all about clouds, featuring CC music and 'cloudy' subject matter readings from the librivox.org site.
Happy July! We've just posted the first release of the month over at Free Music Archive.org called The Phreezound Orchestra. It's an EP created from (almost) 100% sounds sourced from freesound.org... go check it out!
Ah, well I bet you thought that June would come and go with no updates.. not so! In fact, we're mighty pleased to say we've been working lately on the compilation we started a year ago.. Drones To Make Dinner By! Featuring some familiar Happy Puppy faces like Origami Mekka, Cagey House, Kai Nobuko, we also welcome debut selections to our label by the likes of Mystified, echosonic and more. Available in two formats... mixed and unmixed!
And we realize we just released the Drones compilation... but gosh-darnit we're starting another one! This time it's a call to remix music and dialogue from the infamously bad film Manos: The Hands of Fate!
Well blow my lips off! Lee's most recent EP Xeno has got a great review from Vancouver's Georgia Straight! We're mighty pleased with this, even if the review colourfully implies you have to completely blitzed on spacebongs to full enjoy it. And not once does it get compared to Brian Eno.
Lee recently did a one-hour interview with Kent Davies at CKUW for the Amateur Hour program. Lee has been filling-in for Kent on a few occasions, and Kent wanted to have him on to talk what Happy Puppy is all about and spin some tracks (including a few really deep catalog cuts). Thanks Kent! Listen to the whole thing below:
A recent Disquiet Junto assignment called for a score for the trailer of Sense the Wind, a documentary on blind sailors, and Lee's submission was chosen! Thanks to director Christine Knowlton and Marc at Disquiet for the opportunity.
Happy May! Lee has released the second volume in the Time-Lapse series, this time focusing on slow-motion relaxing and meditative music. Here's a video for "Illuminations" that was set to a beautiful animated gif by Mr Div:
Little update for you.. for Record Store Day this year, we've gone a little AWOL from our digital domain and dropped off limited-edition cassette copies of Lee's Xeno EP at Red Cat Records in Vancouver! And a new yet-unreleased remix of Lee's tune "No Pants Friday" appears in this tasteful kickstarter campaign.. I AM FARTACUS! Mmmmmwwwa! G'nite everybody!
It's a happy day around the pupster place as we turn seven years old today! That's 41 dog years, y'know. And to celebrate, we've got a special treat for all lo-bit fans.. the entire Happy Puppy album and single output in one lo-bit box! That's right, we've squeezed 610 tracks, over 41 hours of music into 285mbs! Who wants cake?
Today we're very pleased to bring you this collection that has been in development for over a year. Thanks to the extremely generous Bob Purse, we're starting a compilation series of song-poems that Bob has curated on his site The Wonderful and the Obscure... and the first volume features none other than the song-poem genius Rodd Keith!
Two new items! We've just posted the third volume of King For A Day: a fan tribute to XTC, and Adam Sigmund (aka Origami Repetika) has sent his a new EP called Little Bumble, full of bubbly chiptunes that we think kids might like too, not just adults. Share and enjoy!
You already know how much we love song-poems. So does Tony "Phoneyfresh" Vosik - he created a song-poem blog, recording songs based on original lyrics that were sent in. Unfortunately, the files are no longer online and Tony lost his originals... but thankfully our own Lee saved almost all of them, and with Tony's permission, they are back online!
It's no secret that we love song-poems around here, so we're especially thrilled that Lee is doing a bi-weekly song-poem show on basic.fm! The Makers of Smooth Music debuts this week, February 19 at 9pm UK time (4pm EST, 1pm PST) and replays twice more over the next two weeks. Tune in!
It's February and it's a brand new release from Peter DiPhillips - his second on Happy Puppy. Midnight Sun is more of his ambient-meditative-soundscape compositions, with a little darkness thrown in, over an hour of music for free!
We're re-opening the call for submissions for our Drones To Make Dinner By release - we have enough now for an EP and we'd like to try and get more. New deadline is April 30th - spread the word!
Well, they've officially been offline for 10 years, but now Happy Puppy is proud to re-release the complete set of Jem and the Holograms remixes, originally done by our very own DJ Fudge for his website Jem Starlight Jukebox back in 1998. Truly outrageous!
Happy new year...and we have brand new music for your from Lee Rosevere - available for purchase now from Bandcamp, it's a 6-track EP called Xeno, that also includes an exclusive 30-page PDF photo artbook!
