Malcontents, punks, rebels and revolutionaries of all stripes make up the ranks of the Brujah. Though the Brujah are certainly a motley rabble with no unifying agenda behind their rebellious actions, they back their ideals with fiery passion matched by few other vampires. Their elders are philosophers and teachers, well-versed in debate and oratory. Their youth are often passionately idealistic, from mobsters who despise "the G-Men" to pamphleteers and hospice workers. Whatever the cause, a Brujah will defend it to the doorstep of Hell. Advantages: As free thinkers and rebels, all Brujah have some sort of contacts from their field of revolution, be it mob warfare or socio-political theory. Thus, all Brujah characters gain one free Trait in Political, University or Street Influence, and an associated Ability Trait of Politics, Academics or Streetwise. Additionally, Brujah tend to stick together tightly when trouble erupts, and indeed, a "call to arms" draws Brujah together for common cause even in spite of personal differences. Failure to respond to such a call cause the offender to lose standing within the clan, and to be unable to gain help from other Brujah. Anytime the Brujah Assist one another, the proportion of dice transferred is significantly larger. Disadvantages: The Brujah clan bears the scars of many insults and oppressions from the past. Thus, its members are easily prone to violence and frenzy. Indeed, among modern Brujah, even debate and discourse can become heated enough to incite rage. All Brujah suffer a one- Trait penalty on Virtue tests of Self-Control/Instinct. Additionally, one common characteristic shared by the Brujah is their close tie to the mortal world. While other Kindred interact with mortals through institutions, the Brujah deal most often with individual mortals. Indeed, the Kindred may have none among them closer to the mortal world than the Brujah. One needs to look no further than the closet in a Brujah's haven to know the impact mortals have on their unlives - Rabble follow cutting-edge trends and remain just ahead of the curve. After all, once everyone's wearing a certain style of clothing or listening to a specific kind of music, it's no longer trend setting but trend following. As a result of the close relationship the Brujah ranks have with mortal society, and their propensity to fury, all Brujah suffer a penalty to their Short-term Risk each year. Prestige: Prestige among the Brujah is a curious thing. Because the clan espouses change, it lauds those Kindred who make names for themselves by challenging established institutions. Now, anyone who thinks about this realizes that as elders garner power, they become institutions. While the elders of the clan are more than happy to recognize status or prestige in an ancilla who, say, confounds a Ventrue's bid for power, they're loath to do it when said ancilla confounds their own bid for power. Hypocritical? Certainly. Par for the course where elders are involved. That said, prestige rants not only recognize Brujah achievements, they also allow the assembled Brujah to have a mean-spirited laugh at the follies of their peers. Prestige rants are often affairs that require an invitation, and to decline an invitation risks even more public mockery than simply attending and taking your licks. Humility, after all, is good for the soul. Clan Action: Due to the closeness which Brujah develop to mortal society, they are more aware of the dangers of gaining the attention of the mortals and risk of the Masquerade. This corresponds to becoming aware of the danger they or others of the clan may be engendering. Any Brujah may take this action to help reduce the risk of all Brujah in the city, including their own. Clan Background (Rebels): Throughout history, clan Brujah has sided with the rebels and revolutionaries of every culture. Of all of the clans of Cainites, none holds closer ties to the kine than do Brujah, feeling the ebb and pulse of the latest anti-establishment movements. These kine can be established as friends and confidents, supporting them as would Allies and Contacts. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
