Gary is running for
re-election
as
North Pender Island Trustee on November 15th because he
cares about our Island community, its environment and its culture.
First elected Island Trustee in
2004 and
re-elected in 2005, his last four years as Trustee have taught
him a lot about our community. People care deeply about their Island,
their neighbours and their community organizations. They want Pender’s
special features preserved, protected, praised and promoted.
Being a Trustee is not always easy. People have strongly held opinions and they have a right to be heard. Reconciling views is difficult. As Trustee, Gary wanted to stop the political animosity which was rampant on the Island. He worked hard to achieve a more peaceful atmosphere for our community conversations. He strongly believes that thoughtful discussion and consideration of differing view points helps create a healthier community.
As Vice Chair of the Islands Trust Council, Gary has chaired Local Trust Committees on Thetis, Saturna, Mayne, South Pender and Galiano Islands. He has served a full term on the Trust Fund Board and important Trust Council Committees. Gary has gained a deeper appreciation of our special corner of the world.
As a Pender Trustee, he has worked hard to help people with problems. Whether it was the need for a variance or the elimination of wasteful well pumping tests for a lot line adjustment between neighbours, our Local Trust Committee has achieved sensible solutions to real problems.
Gary pledges to continue to work hard on behalf of North Pender.
