Crowsnest Mountain

The Crowsnest Pass is situated in the SouthWestern part of Alberta
Right at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. The area was, at the end of the 1800's and the beginning of the 1900's, a coal mining area. On the Alberta side of the border there is no current coal mining,
but on the B.C. side of the border, coal mining is still flourishing.

A couple of the major historical events of the area:
Frank Slide - April 28, 1903 the side of Turtle mountain slide into the valley and about 70 people were killed.
Hillcrest Mine - June 19, 1914, an explosion in the mine resulted in approximately 189 people killed

People are coming to the Pass to live as permanent residents as well as a significant number of 'weekenders'
We started out coming here on weekends and for vacations, because we fell in love with the area. Mountains, lots of hiking trails, peace and quiet.
Ah yes, and a great curling rink. Check out the link to it.
We are now permanent residents.
