Basic Operation

The decanter is designed to separate solids from liquid by centrifugal force. To do so, it is essential that solid particles have a higher density than the liquid phase. The separation is determined by Stokes' law as covered previously.

Slurry is fed into the machine through an axial feed tube which injects it horizontally into the conveyor. The slurry strikes against an accelerator in the conveyor feed zone. This accelerates the flow outward, through the feed ports into the pond.
