This Mack Sennet short stars the legendary Bing Crosby
in his first appearance with Charles Gemora. The two would cross paths again
in a pair of ROAD films; first in ROAD TO ZANZIBAR (1941) and later in ROAD
TO UTOPIA (1946). UTOPIA is particularly unusual for Charles; instead of the
usual simian role, the gorilla man played a bear! SING, BING, SING! features a lovestruck crooner attempting to steal away with his sweetheart so they can marry without her disapproving father's interference. Dear ol' Dad also happens to have a domesticated gorilla on the estate though ape is more partial to the daughter. Bing manages to warble out a tune or two before the gorilla suit mayhem breaks out, but I happen to enjoy the man's velvety vocals, so I did not mind the wait. If you are primarily interested in seeing an incredible car chase sequence with SIr Charles the Gorilla behind the wheel, skip ahead to the latter third of the film.
