Topper Annual 1976

Mickey the Monkey graced the full colour front page of Topper from the first issue in 1953 and remained there for 1074 weeks!! Following this mind boggling stretch, sadly, Mickey moved to an inside page with only black and red printing.

The cheerful chimp was silent for his first appearance but gained the ability of speech with issue #2 (along with Polly the parrot who joined him for most of his adventures). Topper was D.C. Thomson's first foray into large tabloid size comics.

On a personal note, I must say that I found the lack of information on this British character rather disturbing. Topper ran for over 30 years and I believe that was on a weekly basis - a stunning achievement for any publication. Yet, searching for anything on this book and Mickey, it's prime star, resulted in the pitiful scraps of info you see here.
