Kid Kong
|
The apparent heir to the King Kong legacy is the slow witted childlike ape Kid Kong. Penned up for the public's viewing pleasure, Kid was treated poorly at the traveling circus. He manages to escape and after donning a snug fitting school uniform he bumps into Granny Smith, a nearsighted half deaf ol' coot. She adopts the big galoot, thinking he is but an oversize child (and treats him as such). Kid Kong's simple nature and his love of bananas tends to get him into trouble time after time. Tearing apart the neighbourhood in search of " 'nanas" usually incited Granny to threaten the simpleton with no more fruit - resulting in a blubbering Kid whose tears could wash out bridges.

Kid Kong was the creation of Robert Nixon and appeared in Monster Fun from 1975-76 and in Buster from 1976-81 (both published in Britain). The initial strips had Kid looking a tad menacing but that softened with subsequent issues. | ![]() |
