Gorilla Man

Tortured by recurring dreams of two gorillas locked in deadly combat, Kenneth Hale headed to Africa after hearing from an explorer friend the legend of the Gorilla-Men. It was said that the beasts would battle to the death in the struggle for leadership. Leaving his wife behind in America, Kenneth ventures alone into the jungle still compelled to seek answers for his strange obsession. Eventually his quest comes to an end, the gorilla-man is in the crosshairs of his weapon but Kenneth is unable to shoot. Tossing his gun aside, Hale rushes forward and engages the brute in hand to hand combat. With the creature dead at his feet, Kenneth Hale finds that he is now transformed...into the Gorilla-Man!

It wasn't until 1958 that Gorilla-Man left his new jungle home. Marvel Boy sought him out with the aid of Jann of the Jungle to recruit him for a new super hero team, The Avengers. Lured by a promise to cure him of his beastly affliction, Gorilla-Man returned to the U.S. to join the group organized by F.B.I. agent Jimmy Woo (in addition to Marvel Boy, 3-D man, Venus and the Human Robot.

After rescuing the President from the clutches of the Yellow Claw, the team was disbanded. Gorilla-Man received a pledge from Marvel Boy that he would find a cure for him amongst the Eternals of Uranus, but whether Kenneth Hale became the man he once was, we may never know.
