The Chimps consisted of Ma and Pa, and perennial ragamuffins Chip and Clara. Poor Pa was forever on the receiving end of all manner of mishaps and occasionally, Ma's rolling pin.
Created by Ray Bailey, The Chimps appeared in Sparkler (Amalgamated Press) from 1937-1939. It marked an important moment in British comic history; Bailey was the first to have his work actually bare his name. Well up until recent years, British publishers kept many of their artists anonymous and unsung.
