According to Beppo himself, he "..was the experimental monkey superboy's father, Jor-El, used to determine whether his son could survive space conditions." Apparently, before Krypton exploded Beppo "...stowed away in Superbaby's rocket...and when it reached Earth, like him and Krypto, I gained super-powers under the yellow sun." |
 Beppo must of waited until Ma and Pa Kent split before he exited the rocket and sequestered himself for a few years because he doesn't make an appearance for some time. When he finally did, he tended towards mischief rather than being a faithful ally to Superboy like good ol' Krypto. Eventually Superboy had no choice but to lead the Super-Monkey out into deep space, ditching him there so he would cause no more trouble. |

But you just can't keep a good monkey down! Beppo (after a lengthy absence) made his way back to Earth, this time encountering Supergirl who introduced him to Krypto and Streaky (the super-cat), the other super-pets. With the addition of other comrades, Proty (shape-changing blob) and Comet (the super-horse, or so he seems..it gets real complicated
so forget I said anything!) the band of Super-Pets proved their stuff when they rescued the Legion of Super-Heroes from the Brain Globes of Rambat. In recognition of their teamwork and efforts the group was given the official title of the Legion of Super-Pets.
