Panama Assignment

During April and May of 1999, we spent 6 weeks in Panama as a CESO Volunteer Advisor. We were located in a town called Chitre where Glenn worked with a local livestock feed company. We had access to a car and therefore were able to explore some of the more scenic areas of this most interesting country.

One place we enjoyed visiting was El Valle where we stayed in the Campestre Hotel, the front veranda of which is pictured above.

Each Sunday the local natives set up a market on the El Valle main street where they marketed their crafts and art work to the visiting tourists.

The colourful appliquéd fabrics that the lady above is offering for sale are called mola.

Panama is a country with flowers of every description. Bougainvillea and Trumpet Flowers seem to be growing everywhere. We are not certain of this flower's identity but were attracted to its soft, pastel colouring.

We spent one day, at the end of our stay, in Panama City - the country's capital and major city. Glenn photographed this fishing boat from an ocean-side city park. When he showed this image, as a slide, at our photography club, the judge was partial to simple images and gave it a score of 10 out of 10.
