Edmonton welcomes returning 3PPCLI

09 August 02 - Lieutenant-Colonel Pat Stogran brings his troops home as ten to fifteen thousand flag-waving supporters and family members came out to honour soldiers of the 3PPCLI Battle Group for their service to Canada in the Afghanistan operations on the war on terrorism. The soldiers marched to the front of Edmonton City Hall, where politicians and high ranking military officials spoke praises of the brave men and women who took part in the operations.

Sea Cadets hand out flags to the waiting crowds.

Members of the military, the police and civilians alike await the arrival of the Battle Group.

Lieutenant Colonel Pat Stogran leads his troops down the streets of Edmonton as a grateful city cheers them on.

Members of the Battle Group listen as both military and civilian leaders present their messages of welcome and thanks for a task well done.

Lt. Col. Pat Stogran addresses his troops and the audience as political and military dignitaries look on.

The parade was led in by the Edmonton Police Service Pipes and Drums. One of their number is seen here playing his pipes.

A moment of remembrance for those who did not return.

The Honourable Dr. Lois E. Hole, C.M., A.O.E., Lieutenant Governor of Alberta , pauses for a moment's reflection as she places a wreath in memory of those who gave their lives.

Music: 48th. Highlanders - Medley "Maple Leaf Forever / Alberta Bound"
Maple Leaf Forever / Alberta Bound

In Days of yore,
From Britain's shore
Wolfe the dauntless hero came
And planted firm Britannia's flag
On Canada's fair domain.
Here may it wave,
Our boast, our pride
And joined in love together,
The thistle, shamrock, rose entwined,
The Maple Leaf Forever.

The Maple Leaf
Our Emblem Dear,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
God save our Queen and heaven bless,
The Maple Leaf Forever.

Oh the prairie lights are burnin' bright
The Chinook wind is a-movin' in
Tomorrow night I'll be Alberta bound
Though I've done the best I could
My old luck ain't been so good and
Tomorrow night I'll be Alberta bound
No one-eyed man could e'er forget
The Rocky Mountain sunset
It's a pleasure just to be Alberta bound
I long to see my next of kin
To know what kind of shape they're in
Tomorrow night I'll be Alberta bound

Alberta bound, Alberta bound
It's good to be Alberta bound
Alberta bound, Alberta bound
It's good to be Alberta bound

At Queenston Heights and Lundy's Lane
Our brave fathers side by side
For freedom's home and loved ones dear,
Firmly stood and nobly died.
And so their rights which they maintained,
We swear to yield them never.
Our watchword ever more shall be
The Maple Leaf Forever

The Maple Leaf
Our Emblem Dear,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
God save our Queen and heaven bless,
The Maple Leaf Forever.

Our fair Dominion now extends
From Cape Race to Nootka Sound
May peace forever be our lot
And plenty a store abound
And may those ties of love be ours
Which discord cannot sever
And flourish green for freedom's home
The Maple Leaf Forever

The Maple Leaf
Our Emblem Dear,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
God save our Queen and heaven bless,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
