Research Tips

Edmund Horler was my GGGrandfather and shows up in the 1851 UK census as age: 11 occupation: Coal Miner.  The following excerpt is from a book I tracked down at the local University library.  (When doing family research, search for items that tie the family member to their time period. A digital camera is wonderful tool for getting a quick picture of a map, heirlooms, or text from a book, copying newspapers from microfiche or from film. These sources are a great way to get information about a period when a family member lived.  If you do use a digital camera make sure you keep a notebook to document each picture's source. I missed doing that for the "Coal Mine" snippet below... I should be able to find it again, after all a University Library can't have that many books..)
