ethni'Zens

I  first  came upon the idea for "ethni'Zens" during  a walk on Long Beach when I stopped to  study the form of some bull kelp that was strewn upon the sand.  I saw the suggestion of a long skirt cascading from a dancer's hips  and visualized an exciting way to combine polymer clay   with fiber to create a figurative piece rich in colour and texture. 

These women are a joy to create and each one surprises me as her personality is gradually revealed through the creative process. They give me an opportunity to fuse my interests in ethnic dress, classic Hollywood costuming and contemporary fashion with three dimensional design to create an evocative character who is subtly beautiful and unabashedly aloof.....

These ethni'Zens are actually lidded vessels.
 The skirt is a container and the upper body slides over to close the vessel.

 These captivating  little beings reflect  the artist's  fascination with human nature,  love of colour, texture &  patina.  Each eccentric-entity is blessed with a powerful personality, astute insight &  a quirky sense of humor.  Always remember that they have ethereal connections & they appreciate warmheartedness.

Moxies NEW!
These little characters are 10-15cm tall - they may be little but they are full of- moxie! Each moxie is one of a kind  and is a celebration of colour and texture. They have lately been spotted in gardens, on walls, decorating handbags & adorning gift packages. 
They make touching friendship gifts.
 Wherever they go they bring smiles and good wishes!
