WW III in Danube Front 85 This scenario is a full campaign scenario of a possible war in Europe staring June 5, 1987. The year 1987 was selected because this is considered by many defense experts as the first year that NATO had a real chance defeating a Warsaw Pact (WP) attack without resorting to tactical nuclear weapons. The date June 5th was simply selected because I wanted something different from the stock version. All the major potential combatants of this hypothetical conflict are included. The OOB is as accurate as possible, with a few exceptions for game balance, or a very few special cases. This package contains some ALT Art but you should install Volcano Art Package as well as Aarons Bolt from the Blue package BEFORE you install this mod. NOTE - there is a error in Aarons 2DSymbols art which Glenn Saunders will correct in the next DF85 Update and this fix is included in the mod.
Mideast 85 in Modern Campaigns - Middle East 67 Long in the works, as soon as we released Danube Front '85 with the new Tac Nuke Rules, I went to Al to see if he was interested in doing more of his Scenarios for this game. We simply provided him the update early and allowed him time to develop his ideas. "When one unleashes the dogs of war, one can never be sure who's backyard they might wind up in!" When the Warsaw Pact crossed the Inter-German Frontier in June of 1985 even the most visionary of Soviet Intelligence officers could not have foreseen all of the ramifications of this act of aggression! However, there leaders were not so blind and in the Syrian-Israeli confrontation over the Golan Heights they found an area where Western resources could be stretched to the breaking point! Included are six (6) scenarios which allow the players to recreate the 1985 Syrian-Israeli War, including the potential use of chemical and nuclear weapons. These scenarios have been designed to use all of Volcanoman's Mideast Mods through August of 2008. enjoy, Al."
Fulda Gap 85 in Danube Front 85 Campaign.zip Fulda Gap, West Germany, June 10th 1985: (WP Human vs. NATO AI). This scenario is loosely based on the old SPI Central Front Series, Fulda Gap game's " V Corps " scenario and covers the first five days of a Warsaw Pact (WP) invasion through the Fulda Gap. The basic notes from the Historical Folder are assumed to be the scenario for the outbreak of the conflict with two (2) changes. First, the thinking in the early 1980's was that the Deutche Democratic Republic's (DDR) 3rd Army would take positions near Colburg and the Hof Gap and attack southward into the US VII Corps sector and the Soviet 1st Guards Tank Army (GTA) would serve as the second echelon for the 8 Guards Army (GA) attack toward Frankfurt and that is the basic set up for this scenario. That said I have to say the HPS West Germany scenario's positioning of the DDR's 3rd Army opposite Kassel and the 1st GTA near Colburg-Hof makes much more sense as under the conditions of the SPI scenario the 3rd Army would have to cross the 1st GTA's line of march which would be a traffic control nightmare! The second change is that as conflict became more and more inevitable NATO Ministers decided to take a longer term view of the situation and positioned engineering units near many of the Rhein (Rhine) River bridges with demolition equipment. The idea here was to give NATO a fall back position west of the Rhein from which an eventual counterattack could be launched. During the late afternoon and evening of June 9th evidence of large scale WP troop movements became obvious and NATO Command ordered the wiring of the bridges. While the bridges could not be closed due to the large scale civilian exodus (and congestion) to the west bank of the Rhein the risk of an accidental detonation was taken. It was a desperate plan with the hope of avoiding nuclear war while still giving NATO a hope of halting the Pact steamroller.
"Northag-North: Autobahn" - for North German Plain '85 NORTHAG-Autobahn is another really execellent expansion pack for HPS North German Plain ’85. This one is a single scenario on Autobahn 2, between Dortmund and Bad Oeyenhausen. Advancing over the Autobahns rather than by rail transport as operation plans had wanted it, the Dutch 52 and 53 Painfbrig stumbled into what soon proved to be a major enemy thrust deep into the very heart of NORTHAG, involving extensive special and airborne operations followed up by 2 Soviet Divisions crossing the Weser and attacking in full force over a narrow frontage. The two Dutch brigades, mobilized only days ago and made up almost entirely of reserves, now found themselves facing the enemy far sooner than expected! Be sure to check out the extensive notes in PDF. Enjoy!
"Northag-North: Winter War" - for North German Plain '85 NORTHAG-North Winter War is an expansion pack for HPS North German Plain ’85 and includes a series of seven scenarios focussing on the actions of 1 (NL) Corps during the Warsaw Pact’s Christmas Offensive of 1985; as such it is an elaboration on the large campaign scenario Winter War in the NORTHAG Sector” (#10_08s). The scenarios work with new oob, pdt and unit icon files. Installing these will not overwrite original files. All scenarios have AI orders for the Warsaw Pact side only. Includes extensive notes in PDF. Enjoy!
Kerama '85.zip a NEW Mideast 1967 Scenario covering the IDF raid on Kerama, Jordan on 21 March 1968. Additionally, all of the Golan scenarios I've done earlier have minor updates & corrections.
Korea 85 Seoul Campaign.zip I used the Sub Scenario Menu to create two (2) "Drive on Seoul" campaigns which last eight (8) days each. The first is a scenario based upon the original Korea '85 campaign game's rational for war and the second is a winter scenario loosely based on Larry Bond's "Red Phoenix" novel/scenario beginning on Chrismas Day and concluding on New Years Day. I did upgrade the ROK and NKPA positions along the DMZ and dug in the NKPA artillery. It is much harder to break the DMZ now, but the NKPA has eight days/56 turns to do it.
"Ich bin ein Berliner" - for North German Plain '85 I am happy to share an alternate grand campaign for the NGP'85 game "Ich bin ein Berliner". It uses the extended Germany map with Berlin and the full OOB from the combined FG'85 - NGP'85 offering. I have also incorporated the action in the Berlin area based upon Cpt Cav's work on the Werewolf scenario. In addition 5 options have been added for arrival of the US 82nd Airborne via airdrop near Berlin. The US 101st division is airlifted, piecemeal to Tegel and Templehof as long as they remain in NATO hands. Warsaw Pact reaction to the airborne attack has been added in the form of the 11th Pol. Tank and 4th Pol. Motorized Inf. Divisions arriving on the East edge June 12. See the notes in the attached zip file for more information. My work builds upon that of others and any errors are solely mine. I am happy to receive any AAR's or error reports.
Syria 2006 Add-on Pack for Middle East '67 Israel's War on Terror, June 6th, 2006. Throughout 2005 and the first half of 2006 tensions continue to grow across the Middle East. With Ariel Sharon’s Stroke and the Palestinian election of Hamas tension grows with Israel. Tension also grows between the USA and Iran over the latter’s nuclear program. After American Air Strikes on Iran the Revolutionary Government (and presumably Syria) encourages Hizbollah to strike northern Israel with missiles. One of those strikes involved chemical munitions and struck an elementary school with a predicable Israeli Reaction… IMPORTANT! Due to the units and maps used this scenario requires the ME '67 add-ons done by Volcano Man (MiddleEast67_Unit_Portraits, ME67_Campaign_addon_2, & ME67_Campaign_addon_Sx), Stewart Atkinson (ME67_SAtkinson_addon) and by Péter Szabó (Lebanon_82). You may be missing unit portraits if you don't have these add-ons. I included the Middle_East_82.map base map in the Zip File. So don't overwrite it if you already have it.
Syria '73 Add-on Pack for Middle East '67 The Syrian attack in the Golan achieved surprise on all three levels leading to a desperate fight for the IDF. The "Heights of Courage" scenarios cover the IDF defense from the initial Syrian onslaught to the IDF's return to the pre-war "Purple Line" positions. The "Across the Purple Line" scenario covers the latter portion of the conflict from the IDF's break in over the Purple Line to the final cease fire. Also included are updates to the previous "Golan Six Pack." To make these files work please allow the old files to be overwritten (and if you want to be cautious copy the old files into another directory or rename before you unzip). I hope you enjoy these scenarios.
Chinese Farm '73 Add-on Pack for Middle East '67 Why a new Chinese farm Scenario? Well first to me the original Chinese Farm just didn't feel right. I never got the feeling of being on the edge as the IDF player in that scenario. Units could do some strange things (like the Prefab bridges moving through the sand dunes and then making it to the canal in time to aid in the crossing!) and finally the OOB needed to be reworked. Now in fairness to the original designers (Saunders & Blackie) they were working on many more scenarios than one for the release of ME-67 and this one is kind of a labor of love for me. And so, in keeping with my standing policy of allowing anybody a forum for reworking existing scenarios for games I help to create, I feel it is only fiting to recommend anyone interested to review this add-on. Be sure to read the Designer Notes Document in the ZIP for details.
Lebanon '82 Add-on Pack for Middle East '67 Long in the works here is an Add-on with a couple scenarios covering the conflict in Lebanon. While the Lebanon war of 1982 lasted for most of the summer that year, periods of full-scale combat were brief and interspersed by ceasefires. Politically imposed rules of engagement limited the use of military force. While periods of fighting can be portrayed well in the game engine, rules of engagement and ceasefires can not. That's why, rather than starting a scenario at the outset, my choice fell on the critical period of the Israeli-Syrian confrontation from 8 to 11 June 1982. Be sure to read the Designer Notes Document in the ZIP for details. Revised 1 Oct 2006 Fulda Gap '81 for the Germany Map in NGP'85After over a year in development, it is done! My 1981 Fulda Gap campaign scenario is played using the North German Plain '85 game. I used the Northern Europe map file (which is included in the zip). All files (including unit picture files and excluding the Northern Europe.map file) are named with a "81" at the beginning. This allows players to quickly see what files are associated with the scenario in the event that they want to delete or change them. Also, this ensures that it will not in any way mess with a players existing files. I am including four pages of notes about my changes and, in many cases, why I made the change. New units have been created (i.e. Rangers, BDR Territorial units, DDR Grenztruppen, US Special Forces, etc.) There are some recommended house rules, the biggest being that the first ten turns of the game are pre-war turns allowing for both sides to deploy their units prior to the start of the war. NOTE - this download is created and is only playable in North German Plain '85 - NOT Fulda Gap '85 Download Fulda Gap '81 here so you can start right away. No other mods required and the download file is only 1.2 MBs.revised 7 Dec 2005 Guys - you're gonna LOVE this one! The Germany2 Expansion PackTwo of the elements of NGP that looked like they were worth exploring more were the 'Berlin' and 'AFNorth' sectors. Many of the war-game community chat-boards carried comments and discussions about putting more detail into the Warsaw Pact attack north of Hamburg in particular. Read more about Germany2 or "hell - just "Download it" so you can start playing right away! Just Unzip the file to your North German Plain '85 folder.NOTE: The Expansion Pack contains all the images for the Berlin Scenarios, however, for the North Force area, you may wish to download Volcano's Alternative Art too - revised 5 Dec 2004!
Germany '85: The new scenarios have been created by Mark Breed, a gamer who has hard the distinction of being both a playtester for the Modern Series as well as a Cold Warrior who trained and served to deter such a conflict from ever happening. Just so you know Mark is a man whose "been there" on the pointy end. He has added half a dozen scenarios along with an extra Prepared Campaign which covers events after a gradual build up to a madern War in Europe. Click on the image of the jump map (above\right) or HERE to download this Add-on. Run the EXE file just like you would run any game Update - and in fact make sure you also stop by the HPS Website and Download the newest North German Plain Update as well.
'74_01s: Red Tide Across Fulda - a 1974 scenario for FG85 Mike says: "Enclosed is a 1974 Fulda Gap scenario inspired by the debate on the unofficial pages about the 1974 prepared scenario being unbalanced. Note: Players need the Fulda Gap '85 Art Pack - 1974 Expansion Pack + Addon Portraitto use this scenario.
The Bears has Claws - a 1981 scenario for FG85 Cpt. Cav says: "I am very excited about this one". It's has been playtested over a dozen times, by three to five players and revised several times now. Three months in the making for this one which features an altered PDT, OOB and new Art as well. Be sure to check out the info in the text file in the Zip." Middle East '67 - A Golan Six Pack
A Golan Six Pack OK - this Six Pack has Seven Scns in it! Al says: "Attached are 7 Golan scenario files for MidEast '67. Three historical with revised OOBs, and four 'Alternate/What if?' files. The 'Alternate/What if's?' cover the original Syrian Al-Owda Plan and two scenarios supposing no prewar IDF "Alert Gimmel." Korea 85 revised Paratrooper Scenarios
Revisions for Korea '85 Mike says, "If like me you like to practice before embarking on a Campaign this will give you a chance to see what happens when the paras land near the DMZ. In these sets of Scns Mike has used the Game Scn as the basis and added the Para and Marine units from the Campaign Game "Strategy | Operations". Fulda Gap Revised OOB and main Campaign Game.
Revisions for Fulda Gap '85 After some research I have changed the OOBs of both German Armies. It is build on the Complete Summer Scenario. In my opinion the OOB is more accurate than the default game OOB. Most significant for the West German Army are the changes in every fourth Bataillon, the introducion of the "DivisonRecceBn" and the addition of the two "HomeDefenceBrigades".
Version 2 Scenarios Revisions for FG85 Some time ago I was contacted by Mark who was concerned about the effects of HQs or rather HQs that were not in certain of the Scns that shipped with the Fulda Gap Game. What mark has done here is create a second set of scn files for the game. These files have a slightly different names - they all have V2 at the end of the file name, so they do not overwrite the default Game scns. Furthermore they use the same Map and OOB files. Be sure to check out the README.txt file in the zip if you are interested in the details of what Mark has done. A Fulda Gap Expansion Pack entitled "France Commits"
France Commits As Warsaw Pact forces grind towards Franfurt, the French commit their I Corps on the southern flank of the Pact advance. NATO intelligence indicates that the Soviets, stalled across much of the Central Front, see seizing Frankfurt as their best hope for forcing a quick end to the conflict. To that end, they have committed the fresh 1st Guards Tank Army to smash the remaining NATO forces and force the Rhine. As the NATO player, you have the depleted 12. Panzer holding the Budingen-Gelnhausen-Hanau Triangle. Your northern flank is secured by elements of the US 3rd Armored Division, with one full brigade deployed along the Butzbach-Friedberg Line and another rebuilding near Frankfurt. Frankfurt itself is held by the two PzGdr Brigades of the IV Home Defense Command, while the 74th Regiment is dug in around Aschaffenburg. Additionally, the 11th ACR, much reduced, is rebuilding north of Frankfurt. Elements of the French I Corps are expected to begin arriving in less than two days. Best played as NATO. 456Kb More Fulda Gap player created Scenarios! Here is some Fulda a scenarios, some with custom OOBs The Soviets concerned at growing signs of unrest in their pact allies decided to pair off German and Soviet Divisions in case of problems. In spring Nato advised the Warsaw Pact that their wargames would start 1 June. The 1 Guard Tank Army was moved into the area just in case. The Germans played the part of the attacker and were massed on the border. On 1 June Nato informed the Warsaw Pact that West German forces were ignoring orders. The Soviets guessed this as the East Germans had just attacked them. Operation Unity the battle to re unite Germany had begun. Whilst the Soviets were to an extent expecting trouble they were caught by suprise hence they start disrupted. This is the battle around Gera it is the first of several scenarios to show what could have happened in operation unity best played as NATO or head to head NB the road by Zeitz has a protection value be warned! For head to head play deduct 300 from the victory point requirements. 18Kb The British and Belgians are here for Fulda Gap '85 Fulda Gap '85 now featuring Belgians Intelligence sources have indicated a large Soviet supply depot located in the town of Schwalmstadt. The Belgian Para-Commando Regt has recently been seconded to II Korps, and the 2nd Bataljon has been given the task of finding and raiding the depot. The 2nd Bataljon is to do as much damage to the depot as possible, then move west to their pick-up zone for exfiltration. Schwalmstadt and the area to the immediate NE is known to have some elements of the 39th Guards MRD reconstituting. 2nd Bataljon must get in and out quickly, to avoid the expected strong reaction by the Soviets...(Size small. Use Explicit Supply. Excellent to play as NATO vs WP AI). 123kb Here is yet another new scenario complete with a custom OOB and Art too!
The Brits On the North German Plain, the fighting had eased just slightly. Constant, fierce, and near suicidal night attacks by NATO strike aircraft have destroyed all the major bridges spanning the Elbe River, and are wreaking havoc with the exhausted Warsaw Pact bridging units trying to maintain crossing sites. Pact troops and supplies have been seriously hampered getting forward into the line. SACEUR could not consider the situation anything like contained, but the pressure was certainly lessened. However, things were not going well at all south in "The Gap." SACEUR knew that all the sacrifice in the north would be for nought if Pact forces managed a breakthrough and the flank was exposed. A British taskforce, known simply as "Rover," and based around the 4th Armoured Brigade, was hastily formed and sent south to reinforce the West German III Korps. After a difficult journey under cover of darkness over several nights, "Rover" pulls into the line northeast of Siegen. Mission: prevent Pact forces from bypassing Siegen-Kreuztal to the north, and breaking through the Rothaar Gebirge into the relatively open terrain around Bonn. As tired British troopers prepare their defenses, a fresh Soviet "Class B" division is rapidly approaching, with an Operational Maneuver Group less than an hour behind, waiting for a gap to be forced... (16 turns, size small, Explicit Supply possible. Play as Warsaw Pact vs AI or H2H). 276kb A couple Fulda '85 Makeovers Here is a scenario from the Fulda Gap game revised with an interesting situation.
10_01s: Plan Rhinegate (Better Warsaw Pact) Central Germany, June 10th 1985. This is the same as #10_01s; Plan Rhinegate, except that the Warsaw Pact Forces are considerably enhanced. The intent was to place the Warsaw Pact Forces in the same league as NATO forces in order to turn the scenario into a real nail-biter. WP morale is boosted to B's with a few A's and equipment upgraded. The OOB file 'Better Warsaw Pact.oob' can be used with any other existing scenario by changing the referenced oob file in the scn file...Backup your original scenarios first. [Size: very large] Designer's notes: Best played as NATO, or Human vs. Human. Explicit Supply is possible. Full Standard Campaign.
216Kb Also, for the hell of it, here is a little thing on Bamberg I was playing with during the development of Fulda Gap '85. I think it makes an interesting Play as the Nato. You will win, but I think it is fun all the same.
10_07u: The Bridges at Bamberg 1973 Map Extension for ME67
NEW sorta official 1967 and 1973 larger Map which extends into Lebanon The other day John asked my partner and I how far the source maps of the Middle East as a player, Michael Hunkele had some ideas for scenarios in this area. Well it turns out our map went all the way to Beirut so we put this together so as to enhance peoples enjoyment of the game. Now Operation Galilee is possible if someone wants to build it. **NOTE** This is not a playable scenario - only a map for players to create their own scenarios on. 168kb 23 Mar 02 1948 and 1973 Campaign Extensions to the Middle East '67 game system! The 1948 War of Independence
1948 -- Into the Sinai By late December 1948 only Egypt was actively at war with Israel. With a whole brigade cut off around Abozzem(Faluja), Egypt needed to hold on to as much of the old Mandate of Palestine as possible as a bargining chip if nothing else. The Israelis, not engaged by other Arab forces, moved the Golani, Alexandroni and Harel Brigades to the Sinai to relieve the Yiftach, Givati and Oded Brigades. Most of the Alexandroni and part of the Harel Brigade were needed to block static Arab forces in the out-of-play areas. The Negev, the Harel, the Golani and the 8th (Armored) Brigades prepared for an offensive aimed at ending the entire war. In the event, only the direct intervention of Great Britain prevented the Israelis from destroying the Egyptian Army and capturing much of the Sinai. This scenario assumes that the Egyptians responded more quickly and coherently to the Israeli attack. 1.4 MB 12 Mar 02
Five Days to Beersheba October 16, 1948: Operation Yoav was the first large-scale Israeli offensive. It was also the first time that the Israeli Air Force made a significant overall contribution and the first time the Israelis fielded a tank Battalion and a significant amount of artillery. The aim of the attack was to open a road to the Negev settlements. The capture of Beersheba appears to have been almost too much to hope for. The scenario hypothesizes that the Egyptians realized the scope of the attack and responded much more quickly than they did in reality. 1.3 MB 10 Feb 02 The 1973 Yom Kippur War Campaign and WHAT IF situations ELEVEN New Campaign 1973 Campaigns This amazing piece of scenario work includes some very creative ideas with US and Soviet intervention in this troubled region. [Home || Downloads Index Page || PzC Scenario Downloads || Volcano Man's Alternative Art Page || Other Panzer Campaigns Downloads || Modern Campaigns Scenario Downloads]More about the Germany2 Download ..... When we started this project, we had to do some additional investigation from the base NGP game; we also had to make several assumptions. First, we assumed that the main NGP/Germany scenarios - #10-01 & #99-01 the Soviet 'Berserker' strategy - would be our foundation. The force deployments and OOB of those scenarios would be 'added to' for the most part, instead of changed. Additional scenarios, like the NATO Prepared series, would be considered later. Second, we had to determine what actions the WARPAC and NATO would take in these two sectors; neither operation is the 'main effort' of the WARPAC - that being the reaching of the Rhine, Ruhr and beyond. We used numerous sources, and at the end of the day felt that the old SPI game "Berlin 85" would be a good reference for the Berlin battles. In AFNorth we used several books and war-games to come to a determination of how that sector would play out. It quickly became apparent that there was going to be a major expansion of the OOB. The Army of Denmark would need to be included. The German Territorial Army was added. For AFNorth, NATO's defense & the WARPAC attack in the Schleswig-Holstein region relied heavily on reinforcement - so elements like the NATO ACE Mobile Force, British UKMLF, US, Russian & Polish Marines were included as well. Additionally, the OOB's for the NATO Berlin contingent and surrounding WARPAC forces, to include the DDR Grenzetruppen, were built. With much help from several 'OOB Grognards', we came up with what we feel is an interesting collection of forces. It certainly makes these scenarios fresh and exciting. What resulted were two distinctly different military operations. On one hand, the Berlin garrison is simply fighting for time, and trying to keep as many WARPAC units tied up from reaching the main battle area in West Germany as long as possible. In AFNorth, you have a collection of NATO allies trying to slow the Red Tide long enough so that NATO reinforcements can mobilize and arrive. The ultimate outcome for the Berlin garrison (even in the 'NATO Prepared' version) is always destruction; so the WARPAC player must race against the clock to secure his objectives while the NATO player tries to throw off that timetable. What surprised the designers the most was that the Berlin battles are actually a lot of fun for either side. In AFNorth, there are several Strategy:Decision choices for each player, especially in the "NATO Prepared" version. With enough time, NATO can put up a pretty stiff defense - but mostly because the WARPAC does not put it's best and strongest units into the battle - nor are there really enough Red forces allocated to the operation. Again, during play-testing we found that the game is an exciting challenge, and how each player decides to fight on turn one will lay the foundation for the rest of the battle. We hope you enjoy playing these as much as we enjoyed building them. A special thanks goes out from Mark "CptCav" Breed and Marc "Bayonet" Bellizzi to Ed "Volcano Man" Williams, Stuart Galbraith and especially Glenn Saunders for all there help. NOTE: Players should download "Volcano Man's" NGP artwork pack as there are several additional units and forces to the OOB that he has specifically built artwork for.
