Do cliches and over-used catch-phrases annoy you? There is no need to parrot the broadcasters, pundits, and corporate-speakers who have forgotten their synonyms or who think current idioms sound sophisticated.
My list of overused, meaningless, or flogged-to-death banish-worthy words and phrases, for which there are a hundred replacements, includes:
That said; absolutely; at the end of the day; 24-7; whole other (whole nuther); extreme; solutions; synergies.
Help the campaign to banish such language from the written page and from the mouths of pundits. Visit Lake Superior State University's Banished Word List to be abreast of what to avoid, and your writing will be much cleaner, and more original.
