For some time now I have been planning a fast attack scope that would setup and breakdown in a matter of seconds. You see our local observing site has a lot of iffy nights where you don't feel like investing a lot of time in to setting up larger instruments hence this scope was based on uncertain nights!. Not to be mistaken for a Travel scope which has become very popular these days, this scope was designed to be truly a grab and go Alt, Az 10" F5 with no assembly required!.
By the way the scope when finished will have aboard at all times 2 eyepieces, barlow, star chart and what ever else I can think of to simplify the grab and go experience.

There was a few main features I had to incorporate in to the project to achieve my goal, one was the ability to retract the front portion of the scope in to the lower half for easy handling purposes, as you know there is nothing worse then bashing  through doorways with some cumbersome tube assembly when you want to grab and go observing. From the beginning I was a little concerned about (mechanical, optical) alignment being repeatable but soon found my simple locating design to work flawlessly allowing the package to be easily handled and reliably set up. Another feature of the scope was that it be carried as a complete unit to my vehicle, with no other components to cause you a second trip in and out of the house. The last and most important of coarse was the scope go in to operation  with the tightening of only one knob.

A quick inspection and then it's right in to my van for a night of observing.
