Eyepiece Parfocalizing
Before explaining the parfocalizing
procedure I would like to say
Eyepiece Parfocalizing applies
to everyone and has to be one of the most overlooked observing aids in
Amateur Astronomy!
Steps to making all your eyepieces
focus at the same point: ( Parfocal)
1. Pick a nice sunny day and aim your
scope at a telephone pole about half a block or so away you may need an
extension tube to attain such a close focus try about 2" in length or possibly
your focuser will accommodate. The reason for using such a close object
is a better chance for a sharp focus, try the threads on a transformer
bolt.
2. Now by dropping in each one of your
eyepieces find the lowest focusing one and install a ring up against the
larger OD. of the eyepiece now re-focus and lock your focusers position.
3. Compare the rest of your eyepieces
to this focuser position and when each eyepiece is at it's best focus tighten
up the set screws on your adjustable slip ring, or whatever you are using
to make up the difference.
4. Also check your barlow and make
the appropriate changes this is not as critical because when observing
you can just slide the barlow in the 1 1/4" adapter for a quick in the
ball park focus and the eyepieces will follow.
In closing I would like to say, wether
you purchase my RINGSor
create your own the benefits of parfocalizing will last a lifetime. IMAGINE
the wear and tear on your Helical or Crayford focuser adding up to zero
over the years because it never moves more then a couple of thou.
