Kushok Lobsang
Dhamchöe is from Namgyal Monastery, the private,
non-sectarian monastery of His Holiness the Gyalwa Rinpoche, Tenzin
Gyatso (the Dalai Lama). He arrived at our centre on March 18,
2000. Kushok Lobsang was born in Kyidhong, southern Tibet on
May 5, 1957, and was forced to flee his country in 1965 when his
parents were killed by the Communist Chinese.
His uncle, Tsering Tashi,helped him to escape to India. Kushok Lobsang
has been a monk since entering the monastery at the age of 12.
His primary teacher was the Ganden Tri Rinpoche, Lobsang Nyima.
He is a master of Buddhist Sutra and Tantra, Buddhist scripture,
philosphy, chanting, meditation, sand painting, butter sculpture,
ritual dancing and rituals.
Kushok Lobsang studied under the
teachers of His Holiness the Dalai lama and received his degree from
the Council of Religious and CulturalAffairs of His Holiness the
Dalai Lama in 1991. Kushok Lobsang taught at the Namgyal
Monastery for three years, was a chaplain in the Tibetan (Indian)
Army for three years, and has held various monastery positions.
(In addition to being Gaden Samten Ling's resident teacher,
Kushok also gives weekly teachings at the Red
Deer Buddhist Meditation Society.)
