Letter
Dear Friend:
Subject: Gabriola Co-op Radio
We are looking for your support in developing a stand alone FM radio service,
operated by community members, with studio and broadcasting facilities
on Gabriola.
Our objective is to establish an ongoing community radio station that
can broadcast during an extended period of declared emergency to the region
under the authority of the Gabriola Provincial Emergency Coordinator and
additionally Cedar, Yellopoint and Nanaimo. This region would include
the Islands in the immediate vicinity of Valdes, Gabriola, Mudge, Link,
Decourcy, Pylades, Ruxton, and Tugboat.
Programming will be of direct and particular relevance to the community
we serve, with promotion of local events and activities, as well as increased
exposure of music by new and local talent, music that is not generally
broadcast by commercial stations or the CBC.
This radio station will greatly benefit the community with timely topics
such as ferry updates, emergency announcements and important advisories.
Your one time contribution will help us achieve our fundraising objective
of $ 50,000, the estimated budgeted amount for start up. Total funding
required is $250,000, which will be invested in an annuity to cover costs
for our annual operating budget of $20,000. Thus, the one time contribution
is all we are asking of you. We will not be soliciting donations on an
ongoing basis.
Public meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 7PM at Gabriola
Artworks and all are welcome to attend.
