To Whom It May Concern:

This is to advise that the Gabriola Fire Protection District Trustees have met with Ken Zakreski of the Gabriola Island Radio Co-Op on several occasions.
After Mr. Zakreski's first presentation to the Trustees a motion was passed to donate $ 1500 to Mr. Zakreski in support of the project to establish a radio station and shared communications tower on Gabriola.

At the most recent meeting of November 10, 2004, the Board established a committee to look into the feasibility of purchasing or leasing a portion of the property where one of our water hydrants is located, for a communications tower site.

Yours truly,

Mr. Jared Hooper
Chairman JH:pm

Subject: tx locations

Hi John,
I have called a few people handling tower sites. Zulu (owner) from Cercomm Electronics and Frank Horton (BC Manager) for Tellus.

Cercomm location - Mt Benson
Zulu recommends that we wait for this summer or next summer at the latest and use the Mt Benson site. He has purchased this site and will be running hydro to it soon. The tower location is currently serviced by generator and microwave links. Mt. Benson has the advantage of looking down on Gabriola to provide complete coverage of all the shorelines etc. Fire chief won't like this site as he can't get to it in an emergency.

Cercomm location - Gabriola
He does have a tower on Gabriola, it's currently being used by the Gabriola and Cedar Fire Depts. 911 is there also. Aperature nice and high is available and he would like Transport Canada permission to put another section on the tower to improve our location. Land owner is Clyde Coates, this is one of our millionares I told you about.
For a community radio station - operated by a non profit society Zulu is offering no rental charge, but we must pay for power and lease hold improvements.

Tellus location - Gabriola
Located off of South Road north of the Cercomm site Frank Horton (ph:604.268.2187) has aperature on the Tellus tower at 75 feet. This tower is located at 49 09 113 N x 123 50 32 W at 160 m elevation and is 48.6 m tall. Tellus uses this tower for Cellular, Microwave transport and Digital Paging. We must use union riggers.
For a community radio station - operated by a non profit society and with permission of the property owner, Frank is offering no rental charge, but we must pay for power and lease hold improvements. Frank states that aperture at 75 feet is worth about $500 per month.

Hope this helps,
Ken Zakreski
