Headers

I opted for the Hooker 2241HKR SuperComp header. It was cheaper than the other brands and I like Hooker headers in general.

hooker headers model 2241 hkr

To get these things in the car I had to follow Hookers instructions almost to the letter. I have seen other websites showing the headers in place and the motor being lowered down between them. I tried that but it didn't work because of the oil pan I chose to use. Raise the motor and feed the left header up from the bottom and bolt into place.

8 quart Milodon oil pan for 56 Chev conversion to big block

I am using a Milodon 8 quart oil pan from a late 50's Chev BB. It has a wide bottom pan as illustrated in the picture. The oil pan made it very difficult to feed the right side header up through. With some patience and perserverance it will go up but you have to raise the motor up as far as the tranny will let it. Tip: the motor has to be bolted to the transmission because the tranny will not pass up through the collector pipes. Instructions on simple dual exhaust modification can be found in the "Crossmember" section.

starter installation

I will go to a mini starter with the new motor but for the time being I am using the stock starter. Lay the header in place with something supporting the collector underneath. Raise the whole motor and lay the starter on the header pipes. Bolt the two front tubes loosely to the motor. Lower the motor back into place. Bolt the starter to the block and tighten. Connect starter wires before installing slip tubes. Install motor mount bolts. Price $675.65
