I will cover removing the doors, removing the door beams, and hanging the doors. Replacing door skins will be covered under the "Sheet Metal" section. Removing door panels is briefly discussed in the "Weight" section. Remove mirrors to protect from damage and paint them now if you plan on repainting the car.

To remove the door place a trolley jack under the center of the door and raise it until you take the weight of the door. Unbolt the hinge from the door not from the door post. The door post side is the side with the shims and you don't want to have to fool with them.

To remove the door beam cut a small hole in the inner lower front part of the door skin. Cut another larger hole in the inner lower rear of the door skin as shown above. Using a grinder with a cutting blade, cut through the beam about 6 " away from the rear of the door. Then make a cut where the door frame meets the outer door skin between the hinges. Cut right through the skin and through the door beam making sure not to go completely through to the outer door skin. Pull the beam out through the larger rear hole. Near the locking mechanism locate six spot welds that holds the last 6" piece of beam. Using a half inch drill, drill out the spot welds and remove the last piece. Using a wire feed welder, weld up the cut between the hinges and the six holes by the locking mechanism. This will remove about 30 pounds of weight. Price $75.00 for a welder.
If you are going to install a rollbar do not rehang doors or re-install door panels yet. To rehang the door, jack the door up on a trolley jack. Install all six bolts firmly but not tight. Check the door gap. To raise door just jack it up and the bolts will hold it in place. To adjust the door inwards and outwards either pull or push on the door to get it where you want it. Carefully open the door and tighten bolts. If you have window leaks there is three adjustments on the window. Raise and lower front. Raise and lower rear. Move window in or away from weather strip. Now is the time to adjust the windows. Replace mirrors. Price $0.00
