Front Bumper

front clip, bumper, and bumper shocks removed

Any G-Body with the plastic bumper covers become cheaper in this area. You remove the covers gut out the bumpers and re-install the covers. Vehicles such as Malibus with chrome bumpers have to be replaced with plastic.
Remove the entire front clip. Remove the cross brace from in front of radiator. Remove the two frame braces from under the fan shroud. Discard this excess weight. Remove the bumper shocks. There is a bolt underneath the frame coming up from underneath the bumper shock.

Remove the C channel on the outside of the bumper. Take a torch or grinder with a cutting wheel and cut away all the metal that you can. Completed bumper above.

Next drill a hole all the way through the bumper shock. CAUTION: It is full of hydraulic fluid and is under pressure. Using a chop saw or if need be a hacksaw, cut the the part off that inserts into the car frame just behind the flange. As in the picture above. Run a bead of weld around the flange. The assembly now weighs 5 pounds less and will bolt right back up. I left my front clip off until the motor was installed to save it from damage and I could stand closer to engine compartment.

Rear Bumper

To remove the rear bumper cover you must remove the tail lights and license plate bracket. This will give you a chance to fix any rust, paint, or bare wiring. Gut out the bumper and bumper shocks as before.
