October 2, 2011 - "Living the Singing Tradition"
Presented by Leah
Hokanson
Do you have any favourite Unitarian hymns? And if so, why are they
your favourites? (Sometimes it's simply because we like the tune!).
Behind every "good hymn" is often a story that connects us to a time, a
place, and a circumstance. Join our choir director, Leah Hokanson, and
members of the congregation, as we share our experiences, and the hymns
that hold their memory.

October 9, 2011 - "The
Welcome Table"
Presented by Rev. Karen Fraser Gitlitz
Thanksgiving invites us to pause and give thanks for the simple
blessings of food on the table and companions in our lives. As we
prepare our feast to celebrate the harvest, let‘s take a look at who is
sitting beside us at the table.

| |
October 16, 2011 - "Forgiveness"
Presented by Rev. Karen Fraser Gitlitz
When people talk about love or compassion they are often using these
words as shorthand for a variety of practices and actions. Any time we
are in relationship with one another, whether we are friends, family
members or co-workers, we need ways to heal past hurts and mend breaks
and rifts.
What does forgiveness require of us, and what does it offer in
return?
And what do we do when the person we can‘t forgive is ourselves?

October 23, 2011 - "How
to Boil a Frog"
Presented by guest speaker Jon Cooksey
How to Boil a Frog is an eco-comedy that gives an overview of the
Big Mess We're In - environment, energy, economic - and lays out a
set of personal solutions that will make your life better and save
civilization as a by-product. HTBAF chronicles Jon Cooksey's
personal, 3 year adventure as a filmmaker, activist and, above all,
a father driven to make sure his daughter would have a future beyond
living on a raft with the last polar bear. It mixes humour, facts
and a sprinkling of experts (in tiny doses) to show how climate
change is just one symptom of an even messier problem: overshoot.

October 30, 2011 - "Embodied
Prayer - Sacred Voice, Sacred Movement"
Presented by guest
speakers Missy and Andre Nobels.
In this Service, Dancer Missy Nobels and Singer-Songwriter Andre
Nobels will lead us through an exploration of the ―sacred‖ as that
which is unique to a single use, person, or purpose. Join us and
together we will celebrate our uniqueness through simple seated
movement and sound in a collective prayer of unity.

Launching Two Fall Chalice Circles |
| |
The Circles provide a wonderful format to create a safe
and supportive community within which people can explore the personal
meaning that different discussion topics bring up. Usually people emerge
feeling re-vitalized and renewed through the discussion and insights
that emerge. And Chalice Circles are a great way to get to know people
better!
CHALICE CIRCLE #1:
Will meet at FUFON, the third Friday of every month, commencing in
November, and will run from 2-3:30 PM. The Circle facilitator team will
include Reinie Heydemann, Patricia Hofstrand, and Anne Morrison. The
first meeting takes place November 18th.
CHALICE CIRCLE #2:
Will meet at Pacific Gardens, date, time and starting date to be
confirmed. Bill Woolverton and Kari Fetherston will be the Facilitator
Team, assisted by Karen Fraser Gitlitz

shared with everyone: ‘Congratulations on a very successful first-ever

people who found it inspiring, nourishing, exciting and rejuvenating.
The good reports keep rolling in! This sounds like the birth of a
tradition to me.’
