206 billion digits of pi Posted by: "s_pagliarulo" s_pagliarulo@hotmail.com s_pagliarulo Date: Thu Jun 19, 2008 9:09 pm ((PDT)) The 1999 world record pi computation of 206 billion digits by Y. Kanada and D. Takahashi using a Hitachi SR8000 supercomputer has been matched by a home computer. Shigeru Kondo has computed 206,200,000,000 digits using the 64-bit version of QuickPi v4.5 in approximately 1850 hours (77 days). The Hitachi supercomputer used in 1999 computed 206,158,430,000 digits and took about 37 about hours for the main run and 46 hours for the verification using 128 nodes (processors) and 865GB of memory. The record held until 2002 when Kanada and his team computed 1.2 trillion digits using a Hitachi SR8000/MPP. That calculation (including verification and radix conversion) required 602 hours using 64 nodes and 1TB of memory. Kondo's PC has dual Intel X5460 processors, 64GB of memory, 2TB of disk space and Windows Server 2003 R2 x64. The calculation result is shown below and has been verified with data from the University of Tokyo. QRD-QuickPi binary reader v4.5 for x64, (c) 2000-2008 S.
