   Our friends from Ontario, Jeffery and Mary-Anne met us in the Black Hills

  Jeffery and Mary-Anne arrive at the campground pulling there home.

   Naturally a bit of horseback riding is compulsory in the Black Hills

  Exploring the area is also a must.

 Jeffery has made some new friends.

 A surprise for Denny and Grace.

The Ohio family gave them a surprise wedding party.

 
Trip highlights:

  • Warm weather and great camping

  • meeting friends for a week together in the Black Hills. They came east from Ontario for the meet.

  • visiting relatives along the way

  • Jackie's High School reunion in Tallmadge, Ohio

  • Having our son and his wife join us in Ohio. They traveled down from Petawawa, Ontario

  • belated wedding reception for Denny and Grace

  • attended the baptism of a new niece in Ohio

  • explored Ohio

  • Traveled back to Petawawa for a brief stay, then headed west

  • Visited the Canadian Bush Plane Heritage Museum in Salt St. Marie.

Major problem with the EuroVan

   On the trip west, with no warning, the transmission failed. Fortunately the failure happened within several kilometres of a EuroVan capable dealer. Repairs took 10 days.

   This was the beginning of two years of unreliable travel as we were unable to get the replacement transmission to operate as it should. Eventually we gave up on Volkswagen, and sold the EuroVan in 2002. We then sold our Jetta and went with a much more reliable brand.
