Welcome to 4
Legged Friendzy
Owned & operated
by Shelley Brew, R.A.H.T
I grew up in the Okanagan and have spent most of my life here enjoying our
wonderful weather and great hiking trails.
I have been working with animals for the last 13 years. I graduated from
Olds College,
Alberta
with a diploma in Animal Health Technology. Since then I have been working
as a Registered Animal Health Technician (R.A.H.T.) in several veterinary
clinics.
The majority of my work experience has been with cats and dogs, however, I do
have work experience in a caged pet clinic (all birds, reptiles, amphibians
and caged pets) and a mixed practice dealing with small and large animals (camelids,
horses, sheep and goats).
My experience and training has provided me with extensive emergency/medical
skills and animal behavioral knowledge. As a qualified R.A.H.T, I am able to
competently give a variety of veterinarian prescribed treatments such as: injectibles, SQ, IM or IV
(ex. SQ insulin injections), topical eye, ear and skin treatments, oral
medications and wound management (change bandage dressings etc.) to the
animal while the owner is away. Part of my job as an R.A.H.T is to
recognize signs and symptoms of illness which will further assist your pet
during dog walks and pet sitting visits.
In addition, I have participated/competed in many animal related activities such as:
canine conformation and obedience, flyball, and agility. Dogs I have
trained have received titles from the Canadian Kennel Club in both
conformation and obedience. I have attended numerous canine behavior and
training seminars. I am a member of the Animal Health Technologists of
British Colombia Association and the All Canadian Pet Services Network. I
am recommended by local veterinary hospitals and dog trainers and can
provide veterinarian references upon request.
And of course, I LOVE ANIMALS!!
My Own Animals
Dogs have been part of my
life since I was a little girl. I got my first dog 20 years ago and I’ve been
hooked ever since. I got my first purebred dog 12 years ago, a Doberman
named Jean-Luc. We participated in several doggy sports and received C.K.C.
titles in both conformation and obedience. For all you dog people out there,
you will understand when I say he was that ONE dog! He tried so hard in
everything I asked of him and the day we said goodbye a piece of my heart
went with him. I now have a Border Terrier named Bean and another Dobie
named Clarke. I’m currently working towards an obedience title with Bean.
I also have a beloved geriatric cat named Frank. He rules the roostJ Frank and I have been together since
college, traveling from apartment to apartment during practicums.
Hobbies
I love
hiking with my dogs. Being a long time resident of
Kelowna and avid hiker, I have found many quiet trails to enjoy with your
dogs as well. I also enjoy camping, gardening and reading.
Another hobby I find rewarding in my spare time is the fostering of
abandoned baby birds.
