Formspace Building Design & Management Corporation
is a company formed on an ancient concept viewed through a cutting edge perspective. The concept is that buildings satisfy many criteria that include:
- Buildings reflect the occupants unique expression in design, function and aesthetics.
- Buildings be treated as living and breathing spaces. By promoting the health of the building you in turn promote the health of the occupants.
- Buildings be modeled after the architecture of their occupants. These design elements include the structural skeleton, the skin, systems for processing information, assimilation and elimination. While this correlation does not have to be literal, care should be taken to ensure that the intended occupants are reflected in the building design.
- Human beings are directly affected by the spaces they inhabit. One only needs to spend time in a properly designed cathedral to notice how people will speak in hushed tones and behave in a reverend manner for proof of this concept.
- Human beings are a biological system constructed from a wide variety of elements, with something added to give this system life. Our philosophy is that if humanity has not agreed on one definition of this "something" in a minimum of 4000 years perhaps all attempts have failed. As we currently view this subject as beyond definition, for simplicity in communication we will refer to it as Life. In building design Life will be exemplified, accentuated, expanded and focused.
- Buildings will be constructed as a harmonious mixture of natural elements in a form which exemplifies Life.
Life is paradoxical: Infinite, Life is fundamentally shared by all living beings, planets and stars. Physically planets, stars and animals are constructed by the same common elements. In some cultures with roots in antiquity, the word used for man is directly translated as "animated earth."
The other side of the paradox is that Life is expressed in each living being with an eloquent uniqueness observed microscopically in the finest grain of sand and the most delicate snowflake. It is this beautiful paradox of common natural elements and expressed uniqueness that we strive to capture in the architecture and function of our clients' structures.
