Limited Edition Plymouths

Using the mold of the 1965 Plymouth Belvedere, Supercar Collectibles commissioned Highway 61 to reproduce the cars of many renowned Mopar racers who, harnessing the Earth shaking might of the 426 Hemi, have torn up the ¼ mile strip in this mid-60's terror. One of these incredible drivers was none other than Mr. Ken Montgomery. Two versions of Mr. Montgomery's car were issued. There are only 600 pieces which sport a gold emblazoned paint scheme. In addition, an incredibly low number of only 150 cars of a mostly black version were also released. I am one of a very few, very fortunate people who have been given the opportunity to obtain a signed copy of one of each of these cars directly from the man himself! It is true that the great ones always give something back, and Mr. Ken Montgomery, a true gentleman, has done this yet again, doing what comes so easily to him, sharing his love of the sport. It is indeed an honour to share in the legacy of his achievements. Thank you, Mr. Montgomery!

One of the original Ertl 1969 Roadrunners is this one in Scorch Red by Exoticar! The color and design of the box goes very well with the car, making it one of my favorites! Apparantly, Ertl produced 2500 of these pieces in Tor Red, 1250 for "Exoticar", and 1250 for "Nutmeg Collectibles". Both releases are much sought after, and always attract alot of attention at the auction!

Membership has its privileges! Available exclusively to "Tom's Garage" members, GMP Diecast made only 400 units of this 1970 GTX, complete with all the expected working parts, but also with windows that crank up and down, a functional Air Grabber hood scoop, a Go Wing, and a hinged license plate that reveals the gas cap. The deep, glossy Burnt Orange paint may appear subtle, but when lined up next to other diecast, gradually dominates the display, attracting all the attention.

The standard issue GTX, 2508 produced, presented at the same time as the Tom's Garage version, sports the stripe package without the Go-Wing or Air Grabber. All other features are the same. This piece rounds out my Mopar collection quite nicely!

This is a really nice collectible! The 1970 Superbirds were one of Ertl's most anticipated models at the turn of the new millenium. This Alpine White came with the 426 Hemi, and was one of 5000 released. It's popularity rose, then fell, but it is still a favorite classic in many diehards' collections.

GMP's first Roadrunner was this 1970 In-Violet offering with the white interior and a 426 Hemi under the hood. This is one incredible looking diecast! It is big and heavy, and has bucket fulls of working features, including side windows that roll up and down, working suspension, and numerous working interior features. It has the ususal expected GMP detailing; worth every penny!

1 18 Highway 61 1967 Belvedere II

This is a 1 of 504 issued, "Triple Black" (interior, exterior, and vinyl top) 1967 Belvedere II. It was only available direct from Highway 61! As is the standard with Highway 61, the box makes an excellent display case as well.

Due to overwhelming popular demand, Ertl produced this 1968 Roadrunner late in 2005. It is a reworking of the previous 1969 mold, with more detailing. This is a very nice looking diecast!

Now this is way cool! Late in 2006, GMP presented us with the much awaited third release from the "Tom's Garage" series, the convertible version of the 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner. This Vitamin C Orange 'Bird is one of only 450 and is shod with all the scale detail touches of the previous hardtop releases, but has the bonus feature of being able to be displayed top up or top down! Combined with the zoomy box art, this is one special diecast!

GMP built this 1970 Roadrunner under the premise that it would be a great home-made moonshine hauler. It's got a super-detailed super-charged Hemi under the hood with working butterflies and an MSD ignition. So long Smokey! I wonder if they also have a George Jones tape in the player:
"Mighty, mighty pleasin', Pappy's corn squeezin'....Whshhhooooh...White Lightnin'!"

This is, without a doubt, the fanciest Plymouth model produced by GMP so far (that is, as of April, 2007)! The texture of the vinyl roof is very well done, and the chrome trim around the wheel wells add that touch of class. Naturally all the other details are up to the usual GMP standards. The B5 code paint job is quite striking to see first hand....

.....impeccably applied and clear coated. I have also included an action shot, to highlight some of the working features. This level of diecast are always in limited quantity, for a good bit of money, sell out fast and are tough to find after a few months of their release; but if you appreciate the fine art of diecast modelling, one of these GMP masterpieces is a must own! My humble opinion only.

Candy, Rosalind, and Jake have traded in their 1969 GTX, from the old Ertl Skyvue Drive-In diorama, for this Lemon Twist Yellow 1970 Roadrunner. This was the first convertible version of the mid sized Plymouth that GMP made. It blazed the trail for a whole raft of rare and desireable 1970 Plymouth B-Body drop tops from the folks at Georgia Marketing and Promotions. Oh, but shhhhhh....the show's about to begin...and where's Andy with the refreshments?

This muy caliente Moulin Rouge convertible is one of only 199 made. It was made available for sale to the general public, exclusively from GMP themselves, and sold out in only 49 minutes. I must apologize for the less than stellar photos of the car, but I took it out of the box only the one time to take the pictures, which, apparantly, didn't turn out to be my best work....sigh! Anyway, the car looks great, and the paint is incredible...and in case you are wondering, it is serial # 0091 of the 0199 made.

"Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou," I said "art sure no craven, Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the Nightly shore..."
Wandering up from the Georgia shores is this Black 1970 Roadrunner from our pals at GMP. One of only 996 made, it was released at the same time as a Vitamin C Orange coupe that sported the same features and equipment including the "way too rad" hubcaps that hang onto the plain wheels with tiny little magnets.
"Tell me what thy lordly name is on this night's Plutonian shore..."

An interesting concept and use of the the GMP 1970 Plymouth mold. This model isn't based on a real Pro Touring show car, but it certainly looks like it could be. The hot red GTX Street Fighter X has some massive air deflectors rivetted to the front bumper and trunk lid. Crack open the hood, and there is the uniquely detailed Hemi with a carbon fiber-looking air intake. I like this model alot! The body style of this GMP mold seems to lend itself very well to the customized look.
