Chrysler 300C

This is the one that started it all. In 2001, Ertl created the short lived "Walter P. Chrysler Collection", and presented us with this detailed 1957 Chrysler 300C, enrobed in a classic black paint job. It came with a number of neat features like a very cushy suspension, a drive shaft that rotates with the rear wheels, and even a key in the ignition. It came packaged in a very secure styrofoam clamshell that protected this high level, and expensive for its time, collectible.

The Parade Green was the next offering in the 300C line, and it too came packaged in the same secure clamshell, although it was marketted by Evergreen Toys. Only 2500 pieces were made. It also sports a fully plumbed and detailed engine under the hood and a rear window defroster hose with attached heater, along with the spare tire, in the trunk.

The regular issue, with the White interior, and chase version, with the Black, of the Gauguin Red 300C were products of the 2006 model line. This is a really unique color, named for the post-impressionist painter Paul Gauguin. Only 2500 of these cars were issued, of which 416 were the chase cars. The packaging is now the typical window box, and the clamshell is a clear plastic, both of which combine to allow for pre-purchase inspection, and to securely cradle in transit.

The sedate Copper Brown version sprang forth in 2007 with a limited release of 1302 cars. Of this total, only 217 were the chase version with the Black interior, while the regular version has the Tan. Not as striking or significant as the previous releases, it still shines among its contemporaries with all its inherent features.

Matco Tools has contracted Ertl to build Limited Edition 1:18 diecast for them using existing Ertl molds, but in colors that are unique to these Matco Limited Editions only. This Regimental Red 300C is one of only 1200 built for them in 2007 and has all the goodies, all the features, securely packaged in a nicely designed black retail box that is emblazened with the Matco corporated logo. Nice!
