Other Stinson's

Here's some photos' we've found or taken of other Canadian Stinson's. There are many Stinson Aircraft in Canada - not all of them in showroom condition. I've noticed that you can usually find at least one Stinson hidden away at most aerodromes in Canada, however, there are areas where the model is found in great abundance. For example, when I lived in Bagotville, Quebec there were three float-equipped models parked on the river within walking distance from our home. When we came to Comox, British Columbia there were five Stinson's on the field - four float-equipped!

This 150 hp 108-1 is owned by Charles Tatham of Duntroon, near Collingwood Ontario. It was completely disassembled and reassembled by the owner previous to Carey Moore and he put about thirty hours on her before his tragic demise at the Sarnia Air Show in a Hawker Sea fury, which was also part of his collection. Charles has put about 100 hrs on the bird in his first year of ownership and received warm endorsements from his AME during the first annual. Charles says, "It truly is an enjoyable bird in every respect!"

This 220 hp. PZL Franklin equipped 108-3 is owned by David and Sally Pirart from Nanaimo British Columbia. This photo was taken when the aircraft was visiting Courtenay Airpark, BC, where we keep our aircraft.

Another Courtenay bird... this 108-1 is powered by a 210 hp. Continental IO-360 and is owned by Ken Huxham - the holder of the Tyee Aeroconversions STC. In fact this is the prototype for his conversion.

This poor 108-3 had been sitting neglected at Courtenay Airpark, BC for a number of years.

I went out to the aerodrome a couple of months ago and spotted this L5 being assembled in one of the hangers. Tom, the owner/mechanic told me he had already arranged the sale of the bird to some elderly gentleman from the US.

I received this photo from Donald Franklin of Mobile, Alabama. He advised me that he and his brother have spent a number of years on the restoration of this 165 hp 108-1. Looking fwd to receiving new photos as the project progresses.

CF-ABC is an O-470 powered 108-3 owned by Dick Machin - this picture was taken at Powell Lake, BC.

This is Rob Olson's all metal 108-1 equipped with an original 150 hp Franklin.

This 1948 108-3 Station Wagon (CF-LWI) is owned by Simon Rose of St. Albert, Alberta.

LWI went through a "ground up" restoration in 2000 and recently received the "Outstanding Stinson" award at Oshkosh 2003.
Simon keeps his plane at home near St. Albert and flies on a regular basis.

This is Doug Reeves fantastic 47 108-1 with 150 Franklin- His rebuild was completed Nov 2002.  This aircraft won best restored and most authentic restoration at the South African EAA Air-Week in 2003.

We'll insert other photos as they become available. Check back soon.
