How Time Flies When You're Having Fun!

Sofia has her eyes checked at the Alberta Children's Hospital

Sofia's lovely blue eyes do not always look in the same direction. This is because of small differences in the muscles of one eye. The glasses she wears serve two purposes -- first, to correct minor farsightedness, and second, to force the eyes to 'track' together. Eventually they should make the eye muscles adjust properly. If not, there is now a very simple eye surgery where they can actually adjust the muscles! Modern medicine is amazing! Overall, Sofia sees OK though. When I go to visit, I usually arrive just before a feeding and I peek around the corner to where she is sitting in her high chair. It is a distance of about fifteen feet. As soon as I catch her eye she breaks into a beaming smile and holds her arms open to greet me. This is how I check her eyes!

On June 14th, the Calgary Ups and Downs Association held their annual 'Street Meet' -- a fundraiser, BBQ picnic, and gathering. All the families get a chance to spend some time together -- it's a real fun day. I canvassed my family and friends for funds and was able to contribute substantially. Momma, Poppa, Sofia and I all participated in a 3 Kilometer family walk. I carried Sofia about half way until she fell asleep, then pushed her in the buggy the rest of the way. It was a beautiful sunny day in a lovely park along the Bow River. Everyone had a great time!

The banner says June 15th, but we 'recycled' an old banner!

This was my first real chance since Christmas to show Sofia off! Here I introduced her to Harvey the Hound, a famous Calgary mascot. I was the biggest kid at the picnic!

We had a marvellous time at the picnic. I won a few nice prizes in the raffles, one of which was large poster of Jarome Iginla, a famous National Hockey League player. I gave it to one of the young boys there (I'm too old for that sort of thing). I also won Dinner for four at MacDonalds and some tickets to a Calgary Stampeder's Football game. I gave them away too! I had my fun at the BBQ!

Sofia loves when Momma gives her a quick wash off in the sink. She is always as smiley as you see her here. She's a little bit puzzled by the mirrors. First she sees me in the mirror, then looks to see me beside her -- then looks back and forth. I think she's starting to figure them out.
