One of my regrets was that Sofia was away in Poland when she had her birthday parties and as a result did not get a chance for a party in class at school, or one at home where she could invite her friends. I even planned to throw an "Un-Birthday" party for when she was back at home so we could invite her friends, many of whom had invited her to their birthday parties here in Calgary.
It turned out that on one of the days when I was not at the school, her teacher arranged a party for Sofia who was leaving school just before the school year ended.

Classroom birthdays are usually celebrated by having a special 'Snacktime'. Cupcakes are prepared in the school kitchen (special non-allergenic and other dietary accomodations are made to protect the kids). Often the parent's will supply specially decorated cupcakes; sometimes the kids get to decorate their own, but on this occasion the kitchen did it. They usually have fancy icing with sprinkles and such.
The table is set with a special birthday tablecloth and fancy plates. Momma supplied the birthday napkins. Birthday hats are sometimes made by the kids themselves. Despite it's simplicity, the birthday celebration is always considered special by the kids and they always have a good time.

Birthday celebrations are always fun for the kids!

Sofia's gift was a stuffed bear wearing a birthday hat. She loves all of her stuffed toys.
This was also a going away party for Sofia. She left school two weeks early because she and Momma were off to Poland to spend the summer with Poppa. When she returns to school in September she will be in Kindergarten -- and she will be in a new classroom with many of her classmates from Junior Kindergarten.
