Every child learns the truth about Santa sooner or later. Because of my involvement with the local Ups and Downs Association (the Calgary Down Syndrome group), and the school that Sofia attends, I play the part of "S" "A" "N" "T" "A" at the Christmas parties. I spelled the word in case any of the kids are reading this!

At the Ups and Downs Christmas party I think I made a mistake wearing my glasses. Sofia came up to visit Santa, received her little gift, and then left the stage and went back to her Mama.

A little while later, when Santa was not too busy, Sofia returned to the stage on her own, and sort of circled around Santa's chair looking him over carefully. She then returned to Mama, pointed at Santa, and asked "Grampa??"!!! She knows me too well and my glasses, I think, may have been the giveaway. Later I changed and came back to the table where we had eaten lunch -- now in street clothes. This may have made Sofia have second thoughts as to who Santa was.

At the school Christmas party I played Santa, but without my glasses. I even made attempts to disguise my voice. I hoped that this deception would fool Sofia. I called Natasha later and she says she doesn't think Sofia knew it was me! Hurray! Kids should believe in Santa for many years!
