SOFIA -- FALL 2005 TO SUMMER 2006

School and New Things Learned

Sofia is really beginning to learn a lot. She is developing in areas of physical coordination, speech, and thought processes. She has developed a great sense of humor and can be seen smiling and laughing most of the time. Sofia now knows all the letters of the alphabet, can read a few simple words, and counts almost to twenty. She is coming up with new words every day and constantly surprises the teachers and me with what she knows.

This photo and the one before were taken at the playground at Providence School where Sofia goes, and where I volunteer. The slide is one of her favorite activites. They have a number of slides, some big, some 'twisty', and some small. Sofia likes them all!

Petland Comes to School!

Petland periodically send one of their representatives to the school to show off various animals to the children. This is always a visit the kids enjoy. We have had Bunnies, Spiders, Snakes, Puppies, Lizards and such! Sofia is very partial to puppies and when her family moves into their new home later this year, Sofia will be given a puppy of her own.

The children are enchanted by the presence of all the animal life that the Petland representative brings, but it only takes one cute little puppy to steal the show and their hearts. As soon as the puppy came within reach of Sofia she leaned over and gave it a kiss. I was just lucky enough to have the camera ready at the right moment.

Our School Is Going To The Dogs!

Another Puppy Comes To School!

Little Cole, only the back of his head is showing, came to school with his new puppy. The kids just had a wonderful time admiring and petting him. Few words were necessary -- but there were lots of "Oohs" and "Aaaahs"!

Sofia is always willing to give a cute puppy one of her most tender kisses!

The sandbox is another favorite at the playground. When it is warm and Sofia gets sand in her shoes, she removes them and her socks and prefers to be barefoot! I can't say I blame her -- sand in one's shoes is a pain.

Assorted Notes and News

Sofia will be leaving in Mid-June to spend the summer with Momma and Poppa in Poland. She will return just before school starts again in September. She'll turn four while she's gone. I'll be missing her and waiting for her to return. I just finished composing a DVD with family photos, pictures of all her toys, and a few of me so she won't get too homesick! I'm sure she'll phone me a couple or few (touch wood) times while she's there.

I have always loved Sofia's great sense of humor.

A short while ago Natasha took Sofia to her weekly speech therapy session. The therapist was working on Sofia's pronunciation of 'P' and 'B' sounds and used small toy ponies and bunnies as teaching aids. Sofia correctly pronounced each P and B sound as the toys were presented in random order.

At the end of the session, Sofia continued saying 'Bunny' and 'Pony' while the therapist was putting them away. The last toy to be put away was a 'pony' and just before the therapist put it away showed it to Sofia who said 'Camel' and then laughed at her little joke.

One day Natasha was getting Sofia ready for school when Sofia announced that she wanted some sausage.

Natasha told Sofia that they were leaving for school, and asked "Don't you want to see your friends?"
Sofia said "No!"
Natasha asked "Don't you like Bronte?"
Sofia replied "No!"
Natasha asked "Do you like Cole?"
Sofia replied "No!"
Natasha asked "Do you like Niti?"
Sofia replied "No!"
Natasha then asked "Then who do you like?"
Sofia replied "Sausage!"

Well. I thought it was cute!
